Hydro Axe Video

Not sure, I think I got the name right and this machine was called a "Hydro Axe". I shot some drone video of it working last week when the municipality wanted to trim back some of our tree line along the road. It chewed up everything except for a couple of big rocks.
Hydro Axe

Ah a forestry mulcher. A hydro axe is a shear type attachment that cuts the trees off usual mounted on a loader type carrier.

There was an old hydro axe that was used here on the Union Pacific right of way some years ago. It was essentially an old payloader with a "bush hog" type mower in place of a bucket. Between the roar of the "mower" and that of the old Detroit motor, it made an awful racket!

I think hydro axe is probably the name of the company that builds the machine attachment. I did not get a good side photo but seem to recall seeing that name on the side of the hood as I drove by. It is a tracked vehicle like a cat with a hydraulic drive rotating drum on the front that just chews up everything.

Yes should have been more specific.

They are the brand name of a wheeled/articulated tool carrier. Up here they are the only ones we see with a hydraulic shear harvester but they also are seen with feller buncher heads with hot saws, rotary mowers, flail mowers and mulching heads.

Because we only see those shear heads on the Hydro axe carriers people tend to generically call them hydro axes.

They also make smaller versions to mount on a skidstear. An ex-buddy of mine had one, and it was one, mean, critter.
