Miss Michigan and me

I finally got a copy of this picture. I've been looking for it for years. My aunt passed away and my cousin found a copy among her stuff. Of course I'm the good looking blonde cuss on the left who Miss Michigan can't take her eyes off of.

Lucky guy. I attended 3 Texas State Conventions and never met a Miss Texas although one year our Chapter Sweetheart was a State Sweetheart finalist. I was Chapter President and escorted her around. You can't beat the sight of a group of young people in the blue and gold.

Went to church with the parents of Debbie Maffett. She was Miss America 1983, I believe? I remember meeting her a couple of times at church. Her parents were really great folks! Think I still have a pen or something around here that she signed.

We had quite a time that's for sure. For a farm boy who never spent a night away from home to meet a beauty queen in person was the thrill of a lifetime.
I still to this day remember the names of two guys from another school who we had never met before and never ran in to again to the best of my knowledge. They were quite the characters.
I drove my Chevy II through the fence in front of the Ionia County Airport on the way home. Somebody pulled out to pass and I had to take the ditch to keep from getting hit head on. Wayne's aunt passed away the day before my aunt did and he brought up that story at the luncheon after her funeral. Good times.

Remember those days of the state convention myself. Unfortunately i had eyes only for another conventioneer from another chapter, still married to one of the first female state farmers

I meet another "Miss Michigan" in 1985, B-52 60-001, as she got to K.I. Sawyer Air Force base about a week later than I did. I went out with a crew from one of my shops to do the acceptance inspection on her, first time I ever went out to the flightline to do anything official in my new assignment. Our Deputy Commander for Maintenance was a pilot and remembered this bird from when he was a young LT and they were both at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, he called her Miss Michigan although in the ensuing years I found out she was actually called the "state of Michigan", but I guess Miss Michigan from 1960 or 1961 was at Wurtsmith for the arrival and commissioning ceremony. I didn't make that ceremony as I was only 1 or 2 years old.

I don't know if it'll still fit or not. I wore it to my 10 or 15 year high school reunion, but I haven't even had it out in several years (or maybe decades).

Miss Minnesota was guest at the 4th. July festivities here in Mankato some years back. After the fire works I went down to Embers Rest. for supper. She and her entourage stopped down there and sat at table
right aside me. She was beautiful.

Back in the mid 80's they had the Miss Teen USA pageant here in Lakeland Florida. I was in my early 20's and was lucky enough to be invited to one of the big parties that week held at a friends big barn close by. You talk about being in heaven but boy did those chaperones keep a close eye on these young ladies. I did managed to slip off with the one of them for a few minutes and spent the next year driving to another state once or twice a month until I figured out that it wasn't going to work out for either one of us. But boy that year sure was fun!

From an internet search ...... sorry RR, she was probably too old fashioned for you anyways, but the swimsuit competition probably had you itching for a date ..... ha!

Miss Michigan 1971 Linda Susan Kish: 19-year-old Allen Park native, she was announced as winner of the Friday night swimsuit competition by auditors who mistakenly handed the emcee the wrong name. Instead, the award was given to Laurie Eileen Vandeusen of Battle Creek. A self-described "old-fashioned" girl when it comes to the "new morals" of the 1970, especially when it came to men.

Well I once slept with a Miss NH. Well we slept in the same room. We were separately visiting friends who were room mates, and stayed over at my girlfriend's apartment.
