Stopped in briefly at a sale in Glen gardner NJ this morning,I didnt feel well ,so I didnt stay long. All the small stuff went for typical prices. There were many 24 inch tractor tires on rims,They seemed to went cheap, some for 80 to 100 for a pair on rims. There were some different sizes ,but many of the pairs were 24 inch,,there were no 28 inch tires

It was worth it,I was just listing the price,,should be well worth it in parts if nothing else..there was a 10 percent premium too.Im not much at fixing stuff, and didnt know it was there till I stopped this morning. But,,Im sure it was worth that.

I wish I could have bought a good cub parts tractor when I was
fixing mine. Would have saved me a lot of looking and money.
Was that one hand start only?

Many years ago, my dad had a cub with a 4 ft belly mower. He used it a lot. I'm thinking the cub was build in the 40's. Good running tractor for it's age.

Larry,

Awww, I'd love to have that little rusty Cub.

My neighbor had a shiny Cub when I was a kid. When my dad was gone to work and the big kids where at school for the day - I'd wander across the road and up the long driveway to "help" the old neighbor guy clean barns, sort piglets, weed in the garden, etc...and SOMETIMES I'd get to ride hanging onto the fender (of a bigger IH tractor), while he spread manure in the fields with my dog running behind and getting covered with poo. LOL

He and his wife were the best people - and they put up with me hanging out there A LOT. Usually got some great homemade snack while I was there too. :)

Some things were just great about "the good ol' days"!

Hope you get feeling better soon. Seems to be a lot of crud going around.

That's quite possible Geo, they were built in one form or another
from 1947 through 1979. Great little tractors for what they were.
Probably one of the most abused tractors out there.
The one in my picture is a 1948.
It had live hydraulics, belly mower, moldboard plow, snow plow
that could also be mounted in the center as a grader blade,
wheel weights and tire chains all with it when I bought it.
That was about 15 years ago.
I sold most of the equipment to fix it up to its current state.
Still have the full hydraulic setup and the moldboard plow.

350 is just the down payment by the time he would have gotten the tractor useable and found a complete set of cultivators he'd of had more in it than he could buy one ready to go most likely.Takes a real good Cub and cultivators in my area to break $1200

I really dont need a cub,,I want one,,,My thoughts on this one were,,crank start,,needs carb, didnt know if or when it ran last,,one really bad tire, and,,most important,I m not good at fixing stuff,,and my brother would help me,,but,,he has way to much going on,I wouldnt have the onions to ask him. Also,,would have to look for cultivators, and there are pieces needed with them that could be missing. If,,(if) I ever do end up seriously looking at one, I would like one with hydraulic lift also. You guys are probably sick of hearing me talk about cubs,,but it is sometimes nice to want stuff, helps keep the mind going,,even if you dont ever get one,If a person gets everything they want,,they have nothing to dream about or think of.Does that make any sense?

"Does that make any sense?"

Makes perfect sense to me Larry.
One thing to think about with a Cub is that the PTO spins backwards.
PTO is also an odd size/spline arrangement.
So, if you ever wanted to run any PTO driven implement, it would
need to be Cub specific or have some way to reverse and adapt it.

The Farmall A was a bit larger, looked much the same, still had
cultivators front and rear, etc. Could be had with live hydraulics.
Might be another option to look at.

I sold this ugly one not too long ago. It was hand start only.
Obviously running in the picture, no smoke. Full cultivators.
Front and rear but missing the side shields.
Didn't bring much more than that Cub did unfortunately.
When it sold the front tires were brand new tri-ribs.
The rears were nothing to brag about and didn't match.
Fenders went with it too, one wasn't on in this picture.

At least half the fun of collecting tractors and equipment is the looking for one and the other half is finding a REAL good deal. And the thing is one will fall into your lap when you
least expect it,just takes patience.Which isn't hard for me since I have way more time than money.

Thanks for posting. I was going to go but had a couple of tractors split in the driveway and wanted to get them back together. Probably going to hilltop in Bangor next
saturday and pumbsock in sussex the week after. My wife don't mind me going to auctions, she just sez don't bring the trailer and keep your hands in your pockets.

They had some other tractors and equipment, and a bunch of trucks,I Didnt stay the whole time.I measured the shaft sizes on the one row cultivator I have it looks like one and 1/38 inch

Larry I have spent too many hours to rememberin tobacco fields on Cubs, Super As, up through the other offset Farmalls to the IH 274. A cub is slow and underpowered to me but serves a function and a good basic veggie gardening tractor. I once mowed a 5 acre hayfield with a neighbor's cub and 5' sickle mower for him. It took all afternoon, but the cub was like the turtle, it just kept going, steady and slow. Since the engine turns in the opposite direction the drive belt simply has to be crossed for the mower blades to turn in the prper direction.

Would one not work good in your garden, would work better than your Ford to cultivate with and I have Fords. I have seen them with 4 row vegitable planters and cultivators.

The head-on picture of the Cub over the auger, that's my Carhartt covered left arm showing. I was standing behind the no-sale Brillion seeder. I gave away the White 543 no-till planter for $200. Didn't take anything home, though.

Larry
I have two pair. One pair might be slightly wider. $40 per pair. My email is open if interested.

. Sweet Feet I loved your post. It reminds me of a at the time a not so old a neighbor that I tried to help when I was too young to amount too anything and the wife would give me a couple cookies and send me home just to get rid of a royal pain in the >>> LOL They were also great folks and we were friends for many years. After I got big enough to do some work they said they could never find me. LOL
