Can you legally repair your own tractor?

Perhaps an interesting read on how to repair today's high tech tractors .. or not ..

(quoted from post at 05:23:04 03/22/17) Sensationalized drivel. Modern tractors are so complicated that the average farmer can't fix them anyway. Heck, the average farmer couldn't fix a Farmall M back in the day.

LOL gotta agree!

Actually some of the old timers did pretty good fixing their tractors. I've read the journals where my grandfather and great uncles had to stop during threshing to repair the McCormick Deering. They went as far as replacing a bearing in the engine, not sure if it was connecting rod or crankshaft, but they were able to get if fixed and back on the job.
Not that I'd want to run a McCormick 15-30 these days, but I do prefer the 25 to 30 year old stuff that is still repairable without a computer and plenty comfortable to operate.

had a john deere rental 2 years ago tractor quit moving called dealer . the man with computer couldn't figure bit out either had to bring another tractor

Local JD dealer had a combine in the shop for two and a half days and had one of their "super techs" baffled. The only problem it had was a sensor in the header that sets the height. I don't know how they determined the shop fee on that one.

I bought a new jd 6410 a few years ago.The ac didn't work the day they delivered it.They sent a service technician in there new service truck with a satellite dish to talk directly to tecks at John deere. He was there all morning, had the dash tore apart and said he might have to run a new wire for electric to the compressor. He had two service manuals in the cab with him.I hopped up on the front axle to see if I could even find the ac compressor.I reached down around the compressor and found an unplugged pig tail.I found the other end, plugged it in an the air worked fine.

I think the way that it works out legally is that we may purchase and own the tractor, but we "lease" the software that makes it do its things, and therefore aren't allowed to alter, adjust, tamper,... Fine print, I'm sure it's in the fine print right above or below where we signed that we couldn't understand IF we read what we never read before we always sign.
