Question on LP fuel

I want to convert a Natural gas engine to LP vapor. I have sketchy information that says turn the regulator upside down and take the regulator screw out. This will give a negative pressure. Can anyone explain this to me. Is this correct? doesn't make sense to me.

Doesn't make sense to me either. Don't think regulators care about position. But it will brobably need a psi regulator. Red. In front of the ng one. Takes less lp so you will have to be able to cut the gas back somehow. Is there a set screw somewhere.

I have seen that statement many times over forty years. Some say it must be done some say no. I have seen engines run just fine either way. The thing you will have to look out for. Do you want vapor with drawl to engine or liquid to engine then converted to vapor.

Email me I can send you some information.

Some gas valve the orifice was different sizes built into one like you are describing but be careful and find it in writing to be sure of your particular piece of equipment. Leak check and don't have as we say in the business an unscheduled boiler relocation.:)

When I converted my 20 Kw Onan Ford powered propane generator to burn natural gas, I had to reinstall the spring into the regulator and turn the regulator with the adjusting screw up. It runs just fine on natural gas. It is important to have a manometer to set the regulator pressure with.

Yo ! You are going to get MANY 'bits' of expert advice here. Buddha bless all. Best option is to deal with your local folks. HTH

Pat,
The older furnaces had instructions on inside furnace near gas valve.

Best advice is call a good HVAC and pay for conversion. Pressures are different and so is the orifice size.

The only problem I had with LP is on a very cold sub-zero day the 500 gallon LP tank would ice up, pressure dropped and furnace couldn't get enough fuel to keep the place warm.

If you have a choice, stay with NG.

I have an old army unit with a gas jeep engine. When I got it they had ran it on natural gas and had a nat. gas carburetor on it. I removed the regulator they had and used the 100 lb LP tanks at first with the small regulators at the tank and a hose right to the carb. I made a slight adjustment to the mixture adjuster at the carb. and all was good. In later years I found a used regulator setup from a fork lift. I hooked it up and run hose straight into it from my LP larger tank on the gas side. I have not bothered to hook the converter up for liquid.

HVAC is my gig ....all day every day....Call a generator guy or possibly a forklift type mechanic. I know and have been taught nothing about that sort of thing in 17 years. My 02 cents take it as you will.
