Overkill....

My otherwise trusty MF50 diesel has been plagued with issues this past year and so to put it on the back burner and turn to a newer tractor....

Needed to clip one of my fields and put my 5ft bush hog on the 756. Overkill - yes, but got the job done nicely.

FWIW - one of the reasons I bought a gas tractor, the 756, was to be able to have a reliable starter in cold weather, but also something that when used for light duty, wouldn't wet stack the engine - as would a diesel. It was good to mow the fields with the gas tractor, have it start easily and no wet stacking.

I would have used my JD 5055d for this job, but it's got the 3pt Lely spreader on it for the next round of fertilizer.

Trade the 5' for a 7'or 8' and you would be matched for power and load. You would also not be driving on unmowed grass!

Forgive my ignorance, but have never heard the phrase "[i:39ae66a6c3]wet stack the engine[/i:39ae66a6c3]" before. What does that mean?

Wet stacking: Light load, or excessive idling- the engine will slobber black, unburned fuel out of the exhaust. Makes a mess, and hard to get off of good paint.

I always use my 2-85 on my bush hog. I was at a large consignment sale in MN during December once. They started all the tractors in the morning and left them idle. All the 466 JDs were 'wet stacking' out their turbos.

How much fuel did the 756 use compared to a diesel?

Reason I ask, I use my 1950 farmall C with a 6 ft belly mower as a lawn mower. It can cut the same yard and use less gas than a 23 hp briggs 4 ft lawn mower.
It's like the Farmall C runs on fumes.

I'm sure the 756 might use more gas than a diesel, but just how much would you save?

I had overkill on my baler for a number of years. I needed at least 80 HP on my 10 foot discbine on the hills, but I could not justify an additional tractor just for the baler and wagon and the others were too small.

I have to say I have noticed that as well. I use a 6 foot woods deck under a Super A and can cut twice as fast and use half the fuel of my little 16hp mower.

I only have a 5' deck under my A and it burns twice as much fuel as my B7100 Kubota with a 5' deck, cutting the same 2 acres. The Kubota does a better job to boot.

There is something I like about the Farmall Red and the ride I like. My 6 ft woods does a great job.

You are lucky that diesel fumes don't give you an instant headache. I have no choice, gas only.

Bottom line, do you save that much using diesel? Factor in cost of fuel is more and how long do your fuel filters cost?
