Ot- television problem

We have an LG flat screen TV,probably 50 inches.Sometimes the remotes won't work.If I turn the TV off and back on sometimes they both work for a while.I can't get the buttons on the TV to adjust channel or volume either. It has a good picture.

My smaller VISIO does the same thing, it all locks up. Have to unplug for a few seconds and good to go again for hours , days or weeks, you never know when it will happen.

Put in a power strip with switch so I don't have to unplug it.

If the buttons all fail or work at the same time, it could be a loose connector between the switch bank and the circuit board. Were it mine (and out of warranty) I would take it apart ti look at the ingredients maybe spray electrical cleaner on the switches (not just any spray, some of them eat plastic) and wiggle and push connectors. Best of luck. Jim

Both remotes have new batteries. If I turn the TV off and back on I can maybe change one channel then nothing again.

We have an older zenith tv that acted like yours. The dealer said to shut it off and unplug it for a few minutes, then plug in and restart--called it a hard start. Cured our problem--worth a try.

We have a VISIO that does the same thing but not often thankfully. Think it has to do with some sort of power glitch, happened twice in the 4 years we have had it. Unplug, let it set for 30 seconds and plug it back in has fixed it both times.

We have TV and a cable box with universal remote. If I accidently push another function besides TV or cable box it messes things up

Hello Ray,

Take the remote apart. You need to clean the buttons and they part the contact on the circuit board. Denatured alcohol works fine. Also at times the batteries contacts get a little rusty. You can clean the inside ones when you have it apart. Clean the battery contact as well new ones or not,

Guido.

If both remotes, and the buttons on the TV all fail together, the problem has to be in the TV.

Something is heating up, going out of spec, possibly a bad solder connection on a board.

Any chance it's still under warranty? If not about all you can do is try to fix it you self. Not many places that will repair them, or charge more than a replacement TV.
