early planted corn

Just wandering how much corn is planted in your area and what are the temps going to be in the next few days. There is some planted in central and south central Ill that is going to go through a couple of days of 16 degree temps. Will it survive if it has sprouted? I would think two nights of 16 degrees would freeze down to the depth it was planted.

There was some planted here in NEKS at the end of last week. Long before insurance. It was a gamble that will get to be redone - we have had a week of cold temps and too dry. I think what does pop through will have reduced vigor. I'm of the mind that it needs to pop up and get going no matter what it is or it will never come out of it. Of course, I refuse to grow it - giving it away at our yields is craziness. I've got 800 acres of beans to gamble with.

Don't think there is any early planting around here. Five degrees this morning with about five inches of snow on the ground.

6 below 0 F here this morning in northern Michigan. I think corn planting needs to wait a awhile.

Going to be at least another day or two in N Ill.
