Think someone was trying to scam us?

We have an old high dump wagon and a 2 basket hay tedder listed online for sale. A person emailed and asked only what the lowest price is and if we have anything else for sale. No questions at all on the condition of anything or if it works well nothing. Than they emailed back said they'll take all of it for whatever we said we wanted. They claimed to live hundreds of miles away and requested they pay us through a paypal account. We said we don't use PayPal and would only accept payment through email transfer. Haven't heard back from them since.

Yup, I had the same thing happen to me just a couple of days ago for a frontend loader. It went almost exactly as it did for you and I took it to be a scam. Seems to happen a lot with Kijiji these days. Sam

Sure sounds like a scam to me!

Is baffling me what the end game is for some of these scammers. On lots of ads I read, I think they are simply after contact info; name, email, phone number, address... And if they happen to get some money out of it, all the better. Others I simply cannot figure out.

I replied to a Craigslist ad last night about a used truck that was said to have a new Detroit diesel engine, and that they had the papers. They replied this afternoon saying the truck is behind their shed but too much snow to get out right now, plus they wanted to wait for warmer temps to mess with getting it started. The temps? Well...yes...it's currently 8pm and -2°F. Had a high today of 7°. Here's the problem - I went to re-check the ad and it was "removed by the author". Maybe he removed it because of the snow and trying to get it started?

With 20 miles of dirt/gravel roads and with this looking like a super wet Spring, I wish I could have gotten it home before the roads get too soft.

...Sorry for the rant. Just frustrated right now.

had stuff on craigslist, always get someone that wants to buy unseen, i tell them yup i still have item, bring cash, usually dont hear anything after that

Even then you have to make sure that the money is not counterfeit. Funny money shows up around here every once in awhile; they haven't been caught yet so they must manage distribution real careful and move around the country.

Scam for sure. I've sold plenty of farm items in kijiji, never once had a scammer answer.

Put "cash only, no trades" in your ad.

They likely listed it too early. Same thing happened to me selling, sold a seasonal item WAY OUT of season. It was a pain getting it out and show it worked in the snow and cold, but I made the sale. Perhaps they either tried to start it and no go, or they decided to relist later.

Interesting I use paypal for everything I buy on ebay most folks request it just saying

I've got something advertised right now. Got an email about the second day, said something like "Is the Ad still for sale?". I wrote back and said "The way you worded that sounds fishy, but yes, what I had advertised is still for sale". Never heard anything back.
