The power...

...is back on! Lost internet about 12 hours ago, the router apparently had enough of the generator. I had one computer working today and got some time in but really behind the eight ball now. Seems like everything is back up and going except computer #2, the one with Windows XP still on it. Says it is "Missing operating system". Whatever that means.

Left one of those little portable storage thingies in the back. It was trying to boot off it. All is well in my world now. :)

We have been lucky here in the wilderness in that we have not lost power in years. Sorry to here about your electronics. I had to replace a lot of electric motors and electronics after running my home off a generator during the big ice storm. Keep us posted and happy farming.

My son bought a home in Grosse Pointe Park, MI last fall. He lost power and still has none, but the people across the street do. He has a fish room in his basement, and they were suffering! So he bought a vent free gas blue flame heater and I made a run late last night to install it. It's already made quite a difference. They do not need power to run, and generate as much carbon monoxide as a cigarette.

I use coop power, owner operated. They seek the cheapest power available. Lots of switching, especially on Sunday mornings. Got tired of having something going and all of a sudden the screen goes black. Currently using a Cyber-Power 1500 VA, sized for 2 computers, routers and satellite systems....they make smaller. It has battery backup for about 30 minutes in addition to inline filtering. There are battery plugs which run the satellite and computers that are also filtered and raw power plugs running the accessories like printers and all on it that are just transient protected. Cheap solution to any incoming power problem.

Still out here, Consumers has told us Sunday?

Never lost power at our home. Our house in St. Clair has no power yet. Since it's going down to the mid-teens tonite. I'm thinking of spending the night up there with the generator to keep the furnace on. Otherwise, I'll need to crawl under the house and drain the water lines. With temps right around 32 today, I figure I'm safe but don't want to trust 10-12 hrs of teens overnite and then find out I've ruined my instant hot water heater.

The thing that bugs me is that we've got the most reliable power in the world, 750,000 people lose power due to the most extensive wind storm in DTE's history, DTE says 90% will be back on by Sunday and people are STILL bad-mouthing the "big bad utility" for the inconvenience and how they should have anticipated this. Plus, when DTE DOES try to be proactive, comes around and cuts down trees near their power lines to prevent this sort of thing, people scream and holler about them "ruining the environment". I guess they just can't win with some people.

You hit the nail on the head, there, JML, darned if they do...

Anyone who travels overseas, especially Asia, can comment on electronics and the local power grids, I think that's why stuff is so cheap over there, they ruin it regularly with spikes and drops.

Heading to and returning from Girl's BB Regionals last night we passed convoys of repair trucks on 94. Folks working hard in tough conditions while we played.

Power was on and off here all day yesterday for 1003 of us at least. Starting about 5:00AM, Off most of the afternoon.

I thought I replied to this but guess I did not hit all the buttons!

My house up your way is still out of power, but that won't matter. They told us it would be out here until Sunday but got it on early. DTE really got this taken care of quickly I think. I am just tired of weather screwing with the way I make a living...here and at the farm. Getting old quick. Hang in there! :)

Hello Dave H (MI),
X

XP is a though system, just reboot when you can. It will probably reload the missing window files on its own. You can also start it in safe mode first, then restart it normally. At worst you may need to reistall windows. I'm guessing not,

Guido.

The world is full of cry babies that can't get their way. Social media just makes it worse and 24/7/365 news just sticks it in front of the rest of
us more often.
