OT hand washing rant

My hands are usually dirty enough to need washing both before and after using the restroom. All of the energy and water saving devices in public restrooms have almost made hand washing pointless. First, I am not a big man, just kind of regular size. Sinks and faucets in public restrooms seem child sized. Then, the automatic faucets keep shutting off. Next, those automatic soap things don't work. They always leave soap on the counter, not my hands, and that foamy soap is worthless. It takes about a dozen pumps because it's all air. That is if the dispenser works. Then, it's back to the blasted faucet to rinse, all with could water. Finally, those leaf blower dryers don't work. They actually hurt my ears, and I run tractors. What is a working guy to do?

That's funny and very true. They put an automatic sink in my ag shop when they remodeled. You have to hold your hands just right under the sensor to get any water. It is very annoying when you have lots of grease to clean off.

Yup ! Pointless ! I keep cherry go jo in my garage/shop and a bar of lava hand soap in the laundry room. Wife has some real nice smelling soap.in the bathroom but it don't work. When it comes down to it I will just use regular dish soap. Public restrooms are bad !

Don't know whut ta tell ya bout afore ya go, but don't pee on yer hands an ya won't has ta worry about warshin agin.......

I wash my hands before I go, not after. I know where my hands have been and I know where my ---- has been. Believe me, I want to wash mine before.

We always carry a bag of wet wipes that we don't mind using, along with extra water to rinse off what the wipes leave behind. While my hands never feel perfect after that, they always feel better than if I had washed hands in a public bathroom, especially if on the road and having to go into truck stops.

I saw a video on YouTube recently about how to make lye soap in bar form. Looks pretty simple. Wife wants to make a batch come Spring. If it turns out as good as the video shows, will probably do away with the wet wipes. They're too much of a hassle when it's below zero out.

I carry a can of goop in truck so I can wash my grease hands when I'm out on the road. Soap in rest rooms just don't cut it.

AJAX LIQUID SOAP 50-50 with water the best money canbuy put it in a used squirt bottle doesent take much try it and you never will buy anything else.

I can't even get hot water in the clinic and hospital restrooms! One of the supermarkets has instant hot water in the restrooms; that's the only public restroom that I can think of that has hot water to wash your hands with - and they also have automatic paper towel dispensers, just wave your hand in front of the machine.

If the problem is at your work place, tell your department manager or the building manager what your needs are, your co-workers are probably in the same situation.

If you are on the road, try cleaning off most of the grim before you enter a business to use their public restroom. That's a common courtesy to the business, their other customers will be using the same door handles you use. If you have special needs, carry paper towels, waterless (alcohol based) hand cleaners, citrus hand cleaners and maybe a cloth towel or hand lotion in your vehicle. Worst case, ATFs (Automatic Transmission Fluids) have strong detergents that dissolve grease better than most hand soaps.

Granted, we don't really get greasy at work, but we can and do get our hands dirty, mainly when we are in our equipment warehouse, but management put those automatic faucets and automatic flushers in our bathrooms, and our water bill has been cut almost in half. That was a savings of around 200 bucks a month.

Try wearing the nitrile gloves in the shop- then when nature calls, just pull off your glove(s) and let it rip. If properly trained and equipped, the glove just goes back on. 8)

They take a little getting used to, but really do make clean-up quick.

Carry a bottle of travel shampoo.Lava, gojo, all in my shop works great. But if i miss a spot on my arms, elbows ect.and wifey points it out while I'm in the house for a meal , I'll use her shampoo. Works better than anything.

P.S DONT TELL HER!!!!

Funny you mention that. I hate greasing things and always put a pair of 5 mil on for greasing operations. Just last week I was working over a
couple of generators for my Fords and brush residue had everything pretty well blacked up. I thought, why not. I did and since then, any work I
do that doesn't require gloves and is dirty, gets done with the nitriles.....HD and Lowes has the box of 100, 5 mil for about $9. Good investment.

Learn not to P on your hands and you can eliminate half the problem......

A joke I remember from teenage years. Greyhound bus makes a rest stop. Sailor and soldier get off and do their business. One of them hits the sink and the other doesn't. One asks the other, about proper hygiene. Other says "I don't pee on my hands". You figure!

And, I find they keep my hands just that little bit warmer that I need in the shop without heat (on all but the coldest of days, at least) and add no bulk, if sized right.

I usually keep a spray bottle of 3/4 water and 1/4 dish washing liquid handy to clean my hands. Also a spray bottle of citrus cleaner will really cut the grease quick.

Many times I have used coffee from my Thermos when nothing else was available. Not too bad a cleaner, at least warm.

I have run across a couple air dryers lately, that will almost blow your skin off. They work real good. Then with out a paper towel I have to use my shirt to grab the door knob. I never touch a bathroom door handle. I have seen too many just walk out of a stall, and head for the door. At my past factory job Asian men were the worst.Stan
