Is it just me or.....

do we have more windy days than we used to. I have a small airplane on our farm here in central PA and it seems like most days anymore it's just to windy to fly it. Don't remember it being so windy when I was in my 20's, but that was many moons ago.

Seems that way to me as well. It seems like a gale is always blowing and a dead calm day is a rarity anymore in KY.

here we have been in a windy pattern from the southeast most of the time since mid December,, just a pattern seen it before,,,
cnt

Had a mild windy day here [se Aud.county Ia] and all the wind turbins that I can see were not turning. Never seen that before as I can count 125 of them fom my house deck.

Same here in central NY. Is seems that often if a storm is predicted, and we don't get much precip., we get wind in its place.
I just heard a train was blown over in western NY.

Seems like we always have strong winds here in Nebraska this time of year. Don't know if the present winds are stronger than usual.

Only thing that seems odd to me this time of year is that there aren't more of them out of the east. No,I'm not complaining about that.

Windy yes, but not these 60+MPH storms we've been getting lately. Two in less than a week's time here in Western NY. Seems like they are coming more and more frequently.

If it was a pattern, you'd remember it happening before. I don't remember this ever happening before. We've had high winds but we would go years between storms.

Haven't you heard it's global blowing it is caused by all the whining that has been going since January. Now be careful we don't want any poofing going on.

All perception and what you want to think I guess. They did a story this morning on AgDay about the early tornado season. They said the long range average is 150 days a year with at least one tornado in the US. Lately that has declined to 88. The number per day has increased though so the number of actual tornados per year is the same.
I think they call that statistics.

Here in NH we get more of everything. We don't get the extremes that you guys to the west get because you guys take the best (or worst) out of everything before you pass it on to us. In the last fifteen years we have gotten about five 100 year rain events, more strong winds more severe ice storms, more hotter days, worst period of drought, longest string of below zero nights. So far we have gotten little to no hurricanes or tornadoes. You guys can keep those.

Less windy days here wind used to blow for weeks at a time now it might blow a couple days through out the year

For me the older I get the more I seem to notice things like that. Things are probably the same, you probably just didn't notice.

I don't think they've been stronger than usual.

I do know, I don't miss needing 3 people to crank manual tarps on open hilltops in 65 mph winds when everyone else has shut the combines down for fear of what happens when you start a fire in a 65 mph wind. And occasionally seeing daylight under the hopper tires.

You would have to find long term weather data that hasn't been "adjusted" to figure it out. The climate isn't, and never has been, static. Winds aren't caused by anything new. Warm and cold air masses around the globe cause winds. The oceans temps control the degree of those masses and the sun controls the temps of the oceans more than anything else. None of this is new. There are cycles that run in decades and there appear to be cycles of the sun that run far, far longer than we've even been aware of their existence. I guess what I'm trying to say is that what we perceive as unusual or having changed drastically isn't always what we think it is. If wed been around in the early Medieval period, we'd think this period was virtual mini ice age.

In the end, the fact is we don't know what we don't know. Mans lifespan is his focal point for his perception and ours is so incredibly short that I believe it's hubris to think we can make absolute judgements.

Me too. About 15 years ago, right about the time I moved to South Dakota, I really started noticing a lot more wind. We had 60 MPH gusts last week. I never noticed that when I lived in the land of trees and hills.
