I have a Hesston swather to I have had a lot better luck with hesston than new holllland hay equipment

I have been using a Hesston 540 baler for several years and it has been mostly trouble free and very easy to use. Happy farming.

Aways keep a close watch on the end pins in the tension cylinders. On our baler like that the pins been known to come out only on one side and bend stuff all up!!!. Keep a few 5/16 x 1.5" bolts handy for the sheer bolt on the tie arms you will break one or two. It is a good baler.....we have not pulled the Hesston out of winter storage since we bought the New Holland BR 7090 Though... Just Saying

(quoted from post at 18:21:13 03/09/17) Can somebody explain how this slip clutch works

Pressure is applied to friction disc via springs by tightening nuts on bolts(key 11). Friction disc(key 2) is attached to flange(key 6) by bolts(key 16). Don't forget to grease zerk(key 5).

Thanks I guess I should have specified what does
the hydraulic cylinder have to do with the clutch
and what makes it engage and disengage ?

The hydraulic cylinder has nothing to do with the slip clutch. The slip clutch is driven by the gear box on the left and the shaft coming out of the right side goes out to the main drive chains.
I'm thinking that hydraulic cylinder should be what operates the twine arms, it's just mounted over top of the slip clutch.
