OT Almost beat by a belt

I replaced the serpentine belt on wife's car, ended up looking on the Internet for the routing.

I've gotten to where I do it all the time anyway, even when I already know. I find the older I get, the less I can rely on "what I know". :?

I use a paint marker I like to draw :) I do this even if it already has a belt routing label on it and put it were I can see it while installing the belt. If I have to go under it or thru the fender well I draw it there also. Sometimes I draw it out on a piece of cardboard for reference. Most all belt tensioner's have a reference mark of were the belt should operate at I mark that also if I can get to it. Install the belt if it close to home you are good to go if not look it over you missed the mark somewhere are have the wrong belt etc.

Sometimes its located on the belt wrapper sometimes not... Before the internet you could have been chit out of luck. I don't remember the first one I ran across but a Jeep comes to mind and have seen more belt routing issues with them than any other.
Best I remember they were the first I seen were the water pump would spin in reverse rotation of the engine it thru folks lots of curve balls.

I have a chopper belt on the combime that i put on wrong to begin with almost every time no matter how much i look it over. Kind of laugh about it.

You Tube is a great place to go to look up auto repairs. Lots of people love filming themselves making repairs like that, or brakes or any number of things. It will also show you what you are in of. After watching the video on how you tear apart a dash on a Ford pickup to preplace the heater core I decided I would rather pay someone to do it.

I will mark too or if i am not sure of my self or the item is going to set for a while I will take a picture and then put in on my PC then I have a good reference.

If the belt is not broken your cell or smart phone is your friend. Lots of pictures folks. If your smart phone has panorama mode and you do a little practice you can make a flowing picture of the whole deal.

If you have a starting point and follow a couple of simple rules you can pretty much figure it out.

1. The grooved side of the belt goes against grooved pullys.
2. The smooth side of the belt goes against smooth pullys.

Now, is it pullys or pullies? Spell checker doesn't like either one, and has no useful suggestions (sullies, bullies, gullies, pules???) .

You spelled the singular form incorrectly. It is pulley. The plural is pulleys.

I Be... I will give him a pass on the use of the word it does not mater,,,but to use that as a way to figger it out its not that simple...

Pardon me for saying so, BUT...
Have you ever tried to even get a good look at some of those serpentine belts? Some are right against the inner fenders, obscured by wire harnesses, intake ducting, and every other manner of things to get in the way. And, you REALLY think a smart phone can get a clear shot of a belt that you cannot even SEE????!!!!????
Really???

I'm sure there are tougher ones i forgot, but what comes to mind is the 6.4 powerstroke in trucks or the 6.0 powerstroke in vans, I think the labor guide is somewhere around 2.5 hours for either one and you'll earn it, this is just to replace the belt. Blood and cussing are guaranteed too.

Many front wheel drives are difficult too, removing motor mounts, supporting engine and cramming an inch wide belt in a half inch wide gap.
