Bearcat feed mill

Got a 1250 bearcat grinder mixer in my shop to look over for a buddy of mine. The mill works great but got a couple questions on it. We don't have an owners manual for it and can't seem to locate one. The first question I have is the big auger inside is supported on top with a bearing that has a lock collar. Now the auger is down to where the collar won't lock on the shaft. So what would cause the auger to be to low? The gear box underneath looks to be good and not out of place. I've worked on other mixers that have a bearing on the bottom that also supports the auger. I haven't pulled down the gear box to see what it looks like under there. The other question is does the gearbox take 80-90? When I pulled the plug it looked like corn head grease in there. If some one has a operators manual or a parts manual that I could get some information from I'd appreciate it. Thanks for any help.

Maybe it looks like cornhead grease because the seal failed and feed got in the oil. Bottom bearing being shot is the only reason the auger would slide down isn't it?

It almost looks like someone pumped gun greased into it. Not sure about the bottom bearing as some mills the gear box supports the bottom of the auger. Would be helpful to find a parts break down for it. Thanks for the reply!

I don't have a Bearcat or a manual for one, just an opinion. I would agree your problem is more than likely your lower gear box. As far as the lube goes, I've been running corn head grease in my JD grinder mixer for probably 5-6 years. I pump a little in and top it off with 80-90 gear lube about every 5-6 uses. The gear box on mine was already replaced right before I got it about 12 years ago. I use the mixer about every other week since I've had it. Knock on wood, but the corn head grease seems to be holding up for me.

How close is the bottom auger flighting to the floor? This is a stupid suggestion but is the mixer roof bowed up from over filling the mixer?

Auger don't seem to be hitting the bottom. The top has a good size channel across it. Didn't take a close look but it could be the problem. It's only off by an inch or less. Thanks!
