I sure am glad....

...I bought that fancy Honda snow thrower in January. Still sitting out there with the bag of tools and manuals zip stripped to the handle. I have toyed with the idea of taking it back. The warranty will be long expired before I ever get a chance to use it. Ever feel like you have your own personal devil following you around messing with you?

Just got one rolled off in the yard today that might be plaguing me for a while. My nephew asked me a week ago if I had a need for a 2003 Explorer with a 4.0 that has a broken timing chain. The same thing happened to the wife's Explorer Sport Trac four years ago and we replaced that one with an engine out of a wreck with only 119,000 from the junkyard for $700. Hers has almost 300,000 miles on it and this 03 is supposed to only have 150,000. For $250,I'll try to swap out another engine,if not,it's worth that or more at the crusher. We rolled it up next to the 85 F250. I'll either get around to putting a motor in it or I'll haul this one off too. For now,my brother just needed it off his trailer.

I wish he wouldn't. We know Dave's luck with this kind of thing and we don't need two feet of snow in March or April here in Michigan. LOL

Rotary Hoes, Snow Blowers, Insurance. Three things I have invested in and wish to not use.

Reminds me of a neighbor who sold snowmobiles. He quit selling them and went to selling Wheel Horse. He said "I try to sell snowmobiles and it doesn't snow,I try to sell lawnmowers and it doesn't rain.". I said "Geez,I sure wish you'd start selling irrigation equipment.".

rrlund, do the valves hit the pistons when the chain breaks? If not, maybe just a chain and sprocket kit would fix it.

It's gotten so that snow removal equipment needs to be a multi-year investment! Haven't hardly needed to plow snow here for a couple of years. Three or four years ago,(I can't remember) I bought a used 12' snow pusher to use on my TLB. I put more hours on the TLB that winter than ever, yet clearing the drives was quicker and more efficient than ever!

That's a benefit to buying used- no warranty to worry about!

No,it doesn't hurt the valves. By the time you buy the parts, the gaskets and go through all the nightmare of timing three different timing chains,it's cheaper and easier to just buy another engine. Seems like the parts added up to somewhere near $800 four years ago. You still have to pull the engine to get to the chain in the back.

Had a big snow storm in 2011, wasn't able to get out of our drive for almost a week. Had a friend with a 4x4 pickup come out and take the wife to town so she could make it to work. That summer I sold my really nice 71 Chevy pickup and bought a 4x4 pickup. I like the newer truck but haven't needed the 4x4 since I bought the truck.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

A while back (10 or 20 years ago) Toro or a Minneapolis Toro dealer offered a "No Snow Guarantee" on every new Toro snowblower sold to Minneapolis buyers. It was something like $50 or $100 back if there was less than 6 inches of snow in Minneapolis that winter. The area averages 50 inches of snow per winter. I don't know if they ever had to pay out on that guarantee.

Early this winter I broke down and replaced the starter on the old 4wd truck and got it running. (Costly and no gun work.) Put the plow on it and there it sits. Have used rear blade on tractor twice, never needed the truck all season. Don't expect will need it yet this winter...

See now, that is my point exactly! I could wipe out Michigan agriculture if I don't watch what decisions I make. We all know what happened to corn prices the first year I planted it. Then there was the year I only THOUGHT about getting a few steers...fortunately I pulled out at the last minute and saved the Michigan beef industry but the prices did take a hit.

I got a load of soy I need to deliver. I am afraid to drive the truck out of the shed! :)

I too bought a snowblower. 7' 3pt. Used it 3 or four times just to say I did. We haven't had hardly any snow. Got a good deal and am glad I bought it. Also glad I didn't really need it this year !

I think you're hiding a barn full of cattle right now that you're not telling us about aren't you? LOL

The wifey and I don't have anywhere to go during most weeks other than the grocery store on Fridays, and appointments to the hospital. I only plow our short driveway when we have to go some where, and only if the plow bank is too deep at roadside. 3 times this winter.

Feb 2007 day before valentine day my back porch caught fire with a new and ready to go snow blower full of gas. The fire took all the wood stored on the porch and half the house. That nasty devil was following me that day. Next day went out to see what was left. melted tires and fuel tank.
