Might go look at a 6' King Kutter rotary cutter tomorrow. It is colored blue. Thing looks very straight and he says it is. Says it only has surface rust from sitting out but pics show it isn't that bad. Not even dented or banged up. $775. What are your opinions on this cutter?

IF your looking for a light duty rotary cutter they are as good as most. Usually pretty simple. If your looking for a heavy Duty one then it would not be that. The $775 would mean it would have to be in real good shape to be worth that. You can buy a new light duty 6 foot King Kutter for around $1200

Where are you at?

I have a 5' King Kutter I want to get rid of, has bent tailwheel, other than that good shape.

I don't have a model. Does the blue color indicate it is light duty? It looks like King Cutter makes light and heavy duty models.

Id look to pay half of the price of a new one. Offer him $600 and settle somewhere in the middle. I think you will be satisfied with the unit. King Kutter made all of its units with blue paint schemes some years back. I have one of their blades that is blue and its pretty heavy duty.

he wanted $850 I got him to $775. It also has a slip clutch which is nice. The cheapest new units I've seen online are $1300 plus shipping and/or sales tax. Might as well say at least $1400 til said and done.

I brought a used one they rust from the inside out. The top frame is not connected well to the outer frame I took care of that and added braces and more welds. I had to go back and rebuild the tail wheel my bad I did not check it good till after I painted it. If I had to do it again I would have had it sandblasted. It OK for me...

I don't know where you live but theres a 6 ft 3pt king kutter in Kirksville mo on craigslist asking $400.00...not mine but just a price reference..they don't sell that high here in this area of central mo

King Kutter's are ok for general use. I had a 6 ft model a few years back and it worked ok. I sold it when I moved to Texas for about $400. Also have bought an sold a Howse...does the job but nothing special. Currently have a John Deere cutter and a Land Pride finish mower. Both work fine for the money. I really like the Land Pride hookup system, anti-scalping wheels and heavier steel decking. You can find plenty of cheap cutter on ebay or CL.

I have a 5' King Cutter, yellow color. It works ok behind my JD430 and would probably work better with more power. Mine does not have a slip clutch, but has a shear bolt. The operator's manual says they used different gearboxes depending upon the HP of tractor they were to be used with. just something to check

I have a 6ft yellow one. As others said,
they're not the most heavy duty, but I have
mowed down some pretty thick stuff. Mine has
the shear bolt. Wish it was the slip clutch.
Bolt doesn't break very often but it's
almost always at the worst time. Parts for
these are readily available. Hit a big Rock
a couple years ago and bent the stump
jumper. Ordered it online.

For that price I would look at new. I have sold many otary cutters and you never know what a used one has been through. A bad gear box can be pretty expensive to replace and there are the unseen cracks that you will not notice until it falls apart.

King Kutter brand made good brush mowers and some cheaper ones. The blue ones were the better made ones and the yellow ones were made cheaper for the discount seller such as TS stores. These are still good machines just not as heavily made.

I prefer the shear pin over the clutch ones. When you hit something with the shear pin model the cutter stops turning but when yo have the slip clutch model it keeps whacking the stone or log until you lift the cutter or drive over it. If you insist on the slip clutch you can buy an after market one for about $125.

Man, you guys are high end. Understandably. Couple things I'd like to mention.

First, I'm not spending $1,500 on this because it's just not worth it for what I will be using it for.

While you never know what I might get into, the main purpose at this point is mowing a couple acres of a couple different wildlife plots, so I would think a light duty would work for me. It's not going to get a lot of use like some of you would use it.

I think I might be in a higher priced market for these. I have been watching for a couple months and it seems the only $500 cutters are 5' and they are scrap metal. Also for reference, people were jumping all over the JD LX4 I just sold for $750, and that is a light duty cutter too.

There is also a Woods BB72 in my area listed for $850. Not sure what they'd take though. It looks real clean as well. Any opinions on that? Is it a heavy duty unit?

if you only mowing a few acres per year it will be fine. but if your mowing lots of acres with heavy stuff it isnt for that. be sure to look at gear box before you pay out hard earned money .agri supply in the carlonias has parts and can price a new one there to good luck

In my opinion, woods are built fairly tough. I think they come with slip clutch. One thing about the Woods blades are real easy to change. I have a Cadet 72 which has seen a lot of war with rocks. It still does the job even being beat up.Stan
