Don't I feel foolish

But it's all kruzer's fault because he brought up the whole truck wash thing, so then this happened

Engine went to de-rate and milage went down a lot. Luckily it didn't shut down. Asked the dealer and they said the only thing they could do is hook it up and see what the issue is. So I got Dart to get me a load home so I at least didn't have to spend time in a motel this time, plus it needs some other work too. Then I got to thinking maybe they did something when they did the ooil change the night before, maybe broke a wire or something. When I looked I found they had left the cap off the oil filler tube. I put that on and the code went away this morning. Should have known to check that first I guess. Oh well, it needs to get in for the other stuff anyway so no great loss I guess.

hope it works out for you.we have a large volvo end loader at work that feeds the blacktop plant it takes the def liquid for the
exhaust that thing will go about two weeks and something goes wrong with that system and then its down anywhere from two days to a
week we have to keep an older machine around permanantly just to bail that thing out when it goes down

Dealer charged me $125 to analyze an engine warning dash light issue on my '07 Honda. It was a fuel-oxygen ratio sensor on the exhaust
manifold. I bought the part (got fleeced for that) and installed it myself in ten minutes..... son-in-law knocked off the dash light code
with his little hand held computer. I forgot he had one of those, could have saved me the initial analysis. Highway robbery for the
dealership analysis, that whole thing takes about 5 minutes.

After the last truck that's got give you a sinking feeling your stomach before you figure out how simple the fix is. One of my vehicles has a "maintenance minder" that lights up a little wrench icon when to warn you when it's getting close to time to change the oil. Even when I'm expecting it I get a "oh no" feeling when it first lights up.

Glad it wasn't a big deal.

Well, I think the oil changers should feel more foolish than you. Sheesh, that's at least the second time a shop has done something like that to you.

FIL once got a new radiator in his pickup... the local repair shop sent him home with NO water in the new radiator! FIL shut it down ASAP when it started heating - and called them to tow it in. (But that guy was some relative of one of FIL's buddies... so FIL continued to go back there. For me - that would have been a deal killer on any repeat business.)

I agree with Dieseltech--check other oil-change related parts. Also, I'd contact the service center, tell them about this. Not in a nasty or hostile way, but just to improve their quality so next time the tech might prevent a similar incident. If they don't know, there's no reason to change how they work.

That brings back BAD memories. I once forgot to put the oil filler cap on after adding some oil and it cost me an engine :-(
Not a truck engine, but still...

As touchy as the sensors are today, I'm surprised it did not come on sooner, like right at the Service Center

Probably a good thing you found the issue yourself. The service center might have thrown sand in the intake if they saw a "low blow-by" code.

I always watch when they do an oil change because I've seen too much bad work, plus it is their policy to have the customer witness the torquing of all the drain plugs and verify the oil level. You even have to sign that you did see it done. Guess I missed the cap, that won't happen again.

Buddy sent his wife to get an oil change on her car, at a Metro dealer. Oil filter was not tightened properly, and her car froze up at Snelling and University in St. Paul...very busy intersection. The shop thought it was sufficient to give her a new filter. They ended up replacing the engine.

Ya'll can have them fancy computer controlled engines and such , yea they may give a little better fuel mileage but they also give you more head aches . Looking back i would rather have my old NTC Cummins over anything out there today . OH i need a new injector ok 65 bucks remove the valve cover pull a couple bolts pop the rockers back pop the injector out stuff new one in flip the rockers back over and reset put the cover on and down the road ya go . OH i need to do a rebuild ok total rebuild kit with three rebuilt heads under two grand a case of beer and a shade tree and a buddy and in two days and back on the road . Yep the last truck i drove i got 6.2-6,7 MPG on a turned up 3406 E and yep my old NTC got 5.4-5.7 everyday and it was five to ten MPH faster on the same hills with the about the same loads as the 3406 . BUT when the 3406 had a problem the Cat dealer did not take a case of beer to fix it they wanted lots of green backs and sometimes i had to go back a couple times to get the problem taken care of . The only thing i liked about the last truck was the fact that i did not have to fall into the bunk at night and fall out of it in the morning . And oh my old truck cost 42500 new and my new trailer cost 22500 new custom built to my spec.s

There is a sensor that keeps up with crankcase pressure. All of the blowby goes back through the engine to be burned. So now we have to clean the charge air cooler because it gets oily inside. Gotta love these "green" engines!

JEEZ,
I didn't know it would do that after you let me use it and I run it though the wash!

I am in and out of my work truck many times a day. Company has a No Idle program so many starts. If you try to start too quick too many times, you will get that message. It dosen't derate the engine however. I figured out that I need to turn the key on when I climb in, take off coat, hook seat belt, etc before starting. If that message is the harmless one, pushing on the knob that changes the normal message in that window will cause it to go away till the next time you start it.
