I'm a little confused by this 'can't weld with a pacemaker' thing. They make all sorts of wrapping to protect sensitive electronics while shipping or the protection like the windows on a microwave oven door. Doesn't someone make an electrically protective coat or something just for this reason?

Anything that can be a magnet(ground cable around a steel table leg)can turn a pacemaker up,down or off.

There are some guidelines to help reduce the risk of welding with implanted heart devices. The random radio noise of welding doesn't reprogram it but can be picked up and misconstrued in the control logic it uses so cause shocks when not needed or not provide them when needed.

A year ago an electrophysiologist dr wanted to implant a pacemaker in me. I questioned him and others re the welding issue, and got conflicting answers. One suggestion he made was...hold the electrode two feet away from your heart. Yeah, right! Ever try that? I refused it. My VA cardiologist agreed with me.

All I know is when my Dad got his pacemaker, he could no longer use weed eaters, chainsaws - any small engines like that. Ended up getting him a battery-powered chainsaw. Worked really well, too!
