Hard wind last weekend took down a big white pine in the back yard. The trunk fell just about where the dog is standing but the branches still gave Mom's favorite building a pretty good whack. If it would have fallen a few feet to the left the only discussion would have been where to burn the remains. Lots of non apparent damage and to tear down or fix would have been a toss up. The entire structure is "racked" but because its a neat looking old building we are going to repair it.

Front view, Ma keeps all her garden and yard things in it.

Great building. Nice contrast between the Pagoda look on its roof and the Gambrel barn roof. Wind can be a game changer. Google the northern Minnesota Blow down. Jim

I suppose the Norwegian Elkhound will put in a request for a house move this Spring to another shady location.

Wow, that was quite the blow down! We were trying to recover from a house fire then. Had a blow down come by us up here by the border about 2006 or so. Left a strip of trees a mile wide and about 30 miles long - all the trees laying all the same direction. It missed our house by about 100'.

As for the OP, that sure is a beautiful little building!! Glad you're saving it. My wife probably would have claimed it as her sweing & crafts building *LOL* Best of all, glad nobody got hurt!!

Ya, she has the run of the place but that pine was her favorite shady spot. She also likes the 2nd floor of the barn and if I leave the elevator door open she goes there to keep watch.

Neighbors tell me that it was built in the 30s and that it was the business office for the farm's cattle business and that there was platform scale behind it. I have been in the area for 51 years now and attended 4-H meetings at the place way back when. It was a playhouse for the kids in my memory. We bought it 2 year ago and the wife said "it's MINE" keep your stuff out of it!, LOL

Since you are doing major repair, I would consider putting in a larger door. That way she could keep her wheel barrow and lawn tractor in there. Now would be the time.

My shed door is 48 inches wide no problem getting garden tractor out with mower. Hal

No, we bought the place 2 years ago. I grew up a couple miles away but the kids were in my 4H club back in the 60s.

And the shingles are an asbestos slate material. Supposed to put in a special landfill. Very few do that though.

Having owned a disposal co., here in Mn. no need to haul asbestos to separate landfill. Just need to notify operator that you are bringing it in so they can bury it without driving directly on it.

We had those manufactured slate tile for roofing on our house. When we remodeled and added on, it made it tough to decide on a roofing solution. We could not find any used ones exactly like ours, so we decided to remove ours one by one and replace with asphalt shingles, to make the whole hose match. I tried for a couple of years to sell the old ones, but could only give them away if I hauled them to Chicago.

That is an impressive looking collar setup. Sure makes the dog look impressive. I do like the look of your dog.

Nice looking building, I like big overhangs on roofs. Keeps most of the weather off of the building, including sun in the summer.
