UTB (universal) 445 4wd

I have a UTB 445 (Universal) 4wd tractor that has a front wheeel drive problem.... i cant shift it into gear as when i shift it into gear it jumps back out even if i hold the lever down with my foot.
Anybody got any ideas what to look for and where to start???

If it has a dive shaft down the drives side look at the box on the side of transmission case could be in there. Not actually in the front end.

I'd say the problem is definitely in the gearbox on the trans or in the trans drive gear,I have a 445 4WD for parts pretty sure the gearbox is still on it.
