First Robins arrived in Omaha

This morning I hear and saw close to a dozen robins singing in the trees behind my house just south of Omaha. Hopefully it will be an early spring.

This is a picture from Northwest Ohio two days ago. The white in the background is not a backdrop made of white sheets!

A photographer friend of mine has a few photos of Robins catching minnows through a hole in the ice.
This was in January of 2016, when a few Robins decided to stay in Alberta for the winter.
They certainly are survivors!

Hank ABAB,

Interesting on the Robin catching minnows.

Your friend is a fantastic photographer! The link also shows mountain goat, a bear, and other beautiful bird photos. Wow!

SweetFeet,

He is a great photographer, indeed!
He comes out to the farm several times a year to take bird photos.

I've put a link to a picture of a Great Gray Owl that he took this winter.
When you view his pictures, click on the picture to enlarge it to full screen.

You can even see the eyelashes on lots of birds in this view!
Amazing detail!

(quoted from post at 12:40:07 02/11/17) Snow is waist deep here. Was -28 c this am. (About -20 f)
Not so much snow here and not terrible cold at +15F but still a couple of months before I expect to see robins here.
I just took a short drone flight over and around the yard and my fingers were pretty much frozen by the time I quit.

Hank ABAB,

Absolutely incredible! The moose, elk and various rabbits were really eye-catching.

Thanks for explaining that they enlarge if clicked upon.

I book marked these to show our teen daughter... she LOVES critters.

SweetFeet, you can go directly to the website at the link below.
Somewhere (page 3 maybe) there is a close-up of a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep's eye.
If you click on the picture to enlarge it to full screen, you can see the reflection in the ram's eye, of the photographer taking the picture!

I use his site quite often to identify birds.
Better than books.
here.

Sweetfeet,

In the area where he describes the picture, he posts something similar to the following if the picture was taken at my farm: "in the mixed woods of the aspen parkland region north of Thorhild, Alberta, Canada."

This is so the exact location cannot be identified.
Many of his bird pictures were taken at the farm.

I'll keep that in mind as we look at the photos again... as I bookmarked the main site.

Truly BEAUTIFUL land where you live!
