Flatbed Farm Trailer

Any idea what a used, shop built farm trailer is worth? About 17' long and 40" wide, wood deck, built from an old truck frame. It needs a new axle & wheels. Local welding shop says about $300 hundred dollars to install a used axle, wheels & tires. Your thoughts? Thank you.

40" wide, that is not even 3 1/2' so what was the width made for?

scrap price, $20 ?

Just for hauling small crates or plastic buckets to & from a vegetable field.

I'd go along with that,if not free for the taking. In all honesty,if it needed $300 worth of work and was free I think I'd keep looking.

How much weight do you need to haul on the trailer?? For $4-500 you could fab up a custom trailer with steel and wood, utilizing an old wagon rear axle, or manure spreader that would precisely fit your needs. That is if you have welding equipment, and fabrication skills.
I have about $650 into this hydraulic dump trailer fabed from new and salvaged steel and a salvaged hyd. cylinder.

Chrysler mini van rear axle with springs and wheels cut from a body stripped of engine lifted by the crusher was $20.00 and a beer. Scrap metal is less than $100.00/ton dirty now, need to wait for Chinese new year month long celebration for the scrap price to go up when Mainland china starts up assembly lines and foundries. Salvage axles and welding work- shop is getting return on welder, labor shop space. If you have the space, welder, time then you can save some money by getting axle, wheels, ect. from salvage yard. A possible back truck axle- find a heavy 1 ton 'floating' rear with 8 bolt hubs and a removable center axle with outside drive flange. Pull axles and use simple flat stock plate to keep in lube, ring and pinion won't be turning or gut completely, use the exterior bearing of rear wheel hub. Parking brake shoes with cable can be pulled or used with a lever and cable at tongue end for parking brake. Boat yards may have a $99.00 surge brake coupler with master cylinder- then you can have back brakes and a parking brake. Onset of cabin fever now means many little projects get done in northern states farms- shop available, main equipment breakdowns done, some income tax money available, wife says get out of house for awhile--- so make up something useful or even silly. Yes back solid axle from Japanese cars. Also look to your local mobile home guys. 5hey always have those nice heavy axle sets for transporting sections. Pretty axles with brand new tires.

I bought a fully functional 8' X12' at an auction for $25.00.
