How do I remove a stuck temp. gauge? How do I raise the fuel tank to install the new gauge? What temp. should the motor work at driving around and pulling a plow? Which temp. thermostat is best for a 1959 Fordson dexta
 
How do I remove a stuck temp. gauge?

Are you asking about the threaded part? Cut the cap tube off and use a 6 point socket.

Are you asking about the bulb, as in stuck in the hole? Twist the end off, get beside it with a small punch and collapse it inward, peel it out with needle nose pliers.

How do I raise the fuel tank to install the new gauge?

I would take it off, get it out of the way. Be a good chance to dump it and rinse it out with clean fuel, and set the lifters.

What temp. should the motor work at driving around and pulling a plow?

It will run at least as hot as the thermostat. Depends on the ambient temperature and the load. You will learn what is normal after using it a while. As long as it's stable and in the middle of the gauge, not boiling over or loosing coolant, it will be fine.

A lot of folks want to run their engines too cold. 180 is good. The "tractor fuel" engines of the past had to be up to around 200 to get the fuel to vaporize and burn right. That's why you started them on gas and when warm shifted over to tractor fuel. The Allis Chalmers owners manual spells this out. I would want any gas tractor engine from the 30 on up to run at 180 degrees. Maybe the earlier ones too. Wear is less and combustion is better at a good warm temp. Maybe under extreme hot temps like 100 and up and continuous high load a 160 thermostat. Same for extreme cold, I might say a 200 degree.
 
IF IF IF you can get a socket on there, an impact wrench set very slightly easy, so it just goes tap tap tap, is the way I get them off. Hold it on square, secure, and to tap tap tap.
