Went out this morning...really cold. Put the last few parts on the 820 flex head and then plugged the heater in while I had some lunch. Out again in the afternoon and took the last few beans off the field. There is 2-3" of powdery snow but not much went in the combine and all of that went out the back. More snow tomorrow and when it finally gets around to melting this part of the field will not be accessible until May. Not really worth the effort today. Starting at the back of the field and moving toward the buildings more than half the field was stripped clean of beans by the deer. Nothing but stems. So I am done!!!

Well...as done as it gets. I have an order for a load of oats that I need to put together. Need to shift the corn in the truck into a gravity box so I can get the few beans I have up to the elevator. And then, of course, it's tax season..........but the important part is there is no more crop outside!

whew!! Standing crops in winter are a drag. Of my first corn crop 3 acres were hand picked due to 1 foot deep yellow clay mud. Husking pins, and gunney sacks to the wagon 75 feet up hill. Jim

Great feeling no matter why you call it quits ain't it? It's almost a month now since I got the last of the corn.

Still waiting on the weather. The crop is dry for a change but right now there is about an inch of snow on the ground which will push ahead of the flex plates and push the crop over. Right now I don't think that I have ever had this much stress on my shoulders.

That's one perspective! The fella that sold me the bin jacks last month said I was a beggar for hard work. One or both of you is right! :)

Great. That feels good. Even when 'it's not worth it' it still sits better for a farmer to be done....

I know, I've been there.

Ya,that wet field I picked last,is going in to oats this year. That should kick off a whole new nightmare.

Yeah Paul, I tell you I got some perverse pleasure knowing that those frickin deer were going to come out to continue the devastation last night and NO beans. Scares me a little wondering what they found instead. I have hoops of fence around my trees to keep them away. Two of those hoops disappeared this year. Neighbor south of me found a 12 pt buck dead in his woodlot. It had one of my hoops wrapped around it's antlers.
