OT- Tree/House

Do you think this tree is too close to this house? The tree is believed to be a dogwood. There is a basement directly adjacent the house. Like the tree, but have been told it should be removed to prevent damage to house.

Thanks,

Neil

Pic didn't come through. Will try again in a bit. Anyway, tree is about 3 feet from basement wall.

Thanks. Here's the pic.

Yes, questionally close. No, it is not a dogwood. Remove, I would. Tree appears to be an ornamental flowering cherry and if so can get quite large.

I don't see it being a danger to the house yet.

The roots will go to the water. If the yard is watered they should go away from the house. But I would keep watch on the basement wall for any sign of cracking or leaking.

If you have solid poured concrete walls I don't think a shrub/small tree will damage the basement walls. A bigger tree could damage the basement wall and clog your rain gutters with leaves and sticks. I do think the shrub is way too close to your windows. A plant like that would be better in the yard or at a corner of the house. I would remove it.

Looks like a serviceberry, blooms about 10-14 days before dogwood. It is shrub like in that it will have more fiberous roots. Because it is leaning at such an angle already, and it's roots will be growing the same direction it could fall over. Sooo, I would remove it. Nathan

Hi, I would remove it. It doesn't look like cherry because cherry trees bark is more like birch. It peals in strands in circumference. It would be very easy for me to remove with my Cat 416 bh. Ed Will Oliver BC

From the lean it has I don'think it will ever fall on the house. What will it fall on though? If noting much and you like it leave it. If it might fall on a car or something you value, take it down. Plant a new one where you want it.
