DWI Hit and Run Kills Tractor Driver OT

And I thought the judges in the US were bad about handing down short penalties, but this one in the UK is ridiculous. 6 years for driving a truck drunk and killing a man? Crazy. Note toward the end of the article that this guy had been convicted two times prior to this accident for DWI.

Early this year A DUI driver T bones a car on RT 47 just south of Morris, IL killing the mother and two very young children, Dui lived. Judge just gave her 24 years and have to serve 85% of the time. Ruffly 8 years per death. She will be 64 when let out of the state pen. She will be just down the road at Dwight, Il bad girls jail. She had already had two DUI convicitions. The judge could only give a 28 year total jail time. The husband was not in the car. Very common example of convicted drivers still on the road. A non DUI death in Lake county the driver was putting on Make up and driving. Yes she did, drove over a woman at a stop sign on a Hog bike and killed her. I have followed many putting on make while driving the Chicago express ways. Have seen people reading books and newspapers driving. This past week was behind a women curling her eye lashes on the road. Brother see many truckers texting while driving on the interstate. Last bad train derailment in Chicago the engineer was texting and blew a slow sign and messed up many passanger on the train. Just returned from SC and the cell phone users in that state in large cities are clueless. Many will not move after the light turns green and driving 10 to 15 MPH slower than the rest of the traffic so they can call home to check on the kids which should be in the car.... DUI driving is just nasty. Ever see a guy peddle away with a case of beer on a peddle bike? Has a DUI problem and can't drive.
Canada has a different out look on the subject. Out right takes the car. Not sure of the details.

There was a 21 year old girl killed near here night before last. FOUR young'ns were riding on a four wheeler when the drunk 24 year old driver lost control and hit a light pole.

I'm not a teetotaller, but I blame the parents for bringing their kids up to believe they can't possibly be having fun if they're not half snockered or beyond.

BTW, the driver will be charged with negligent homicide when he gets out of the hospital.

It never ceases to amaze me - Here in TN, the state legislature recently passed a law allowing licensed-to-carry gunowners to carry their guns while eating in a restaurant that served alcohol (but the gunowner is not allowed to drink while carrying).

The newspapers made a big deal out of it - it wasn"t safe to mix guns and alcohol. Yet, they see no problem with mixing drivers and alcohol!
Every night the taverns and beer joints turn out dozens of drivers who are too drunk to drive safely. And yet, no problem???????

I would rather eat in a restaurant with 20 law-abiding,sober gun carriers than to meet ONE drunk driver on the road at night. Maybe I have just gotten too old to understand the "rational thinking" of the newspaper people.

if that is in the UK it"s a foreign semi trailer unit, license plate is wrong for a UK bases unit, but it doesn"t suprise me, they"ve gone soft on crime over there, better to be a criminal than a good guy! - so much for the governments "tough on crime" policy...

That's up to the legislature in the state in which the crime occurs. It varies across the nation, and world.
