Farmall MD Value??

running and straight... 2500.00-3000.00 as an average range, could be less even depending on seller.

Ment to say he's asking 2000. An yes you start tractor on gas then switch it to diesel. I haven't seen the tractor in person, have few details he thought I was just a md, but may be a super. Either way guess I'll decide when I go look at it.

and how is that? unless you are an experienced bodyman to do a professional job then forget get that idea. nobody wants a tractor that has splashed on paint. to do that tractor properly you are looking at a few thousand dollars. so how will you make money? i have seen many a tractor spoiled with slope job paint on them. an original condition tractor is worth the most money to any collector. he will do with it as he wants. dont spoil that tractor. i also will pay more for any unpainted tractor that is original. it is original only once.

BTDT, you will make the most money by not putting any money into it, never get return on paint job.

Yes I've seen several that someone has ran down to the local hardware and just plastered on some body filler and cheap tractor paint. I planned on a good bc/cc, as far as body work just takes time, don't rush it. I've also seen guys that like to shoot there mouth off about a bad paint job, or body work some tried there self. Only to find out all they have is rusted junk an just make excuses for why there stuff looks like crap, they like to keep it the original pile of junk they bought, and talk the other guy down .

If you are going to shoot a good base clear, figure anywhere from 700 to a grand just for materials.

Go for it...the worst you can do is lose money on the deal :D

Its not like the paint jobs these tractor had on them back in the 1940s and 50s were anything to brag about. I painted my 350 Farmall back in 1998 and only had about $40-$50 in materials but at least 40 hours in cleaning and sanding. Almost 20 years later I still get compliments on how it looks. Rustoleum has gone up in price since then but 90-95% of paint job is the preparation and only about 10% is the materials and spraying.

Pretty hard to make money on these old girls. Not a lot of buyers these days, and it is very easy to get more into it than you will ever get out of
it.

If it is sound mechanically, $2,000 is a good place to start. If you do a proper paint job, you will have more than the tractor is worth in it, but then any kind of major tractor repair on a "yesterdays tractor" will cost you more than you can resell it for. If it is worth it to you, what anyone else thinks is irrelevant. The start on gas and switch to diesel worked quite well on our old TD-14 dozer. When it was 20 below zero you had to use a couple of gallons of gas to warm that huge motor up enough to switch to diesel, but it never failed to start if the batteries could turn the motor over. I would think an MD would be fun to mess around with.

When I see something for sale with a new paint job I look the other way. I have seen too many "Dupont Overhauls" in my day.

MD engine parts are expensive. The collector tractor market is tanking and few hobby farmers will want to mess with an MD. What do gas M's sell for in your area, $1,000 to $1,500? $2,000 sounds like full market value for an MD.

Right now in centrtal PA you would easily be paying 28 to 30 thousand dollars if everything is working and a good paint job.
