Changing starter

I want to change the starter on my Grand-daughters "B" Farmall to a solenoid start, can the lug be changed out to a post without much problem?

Would not be a problem for me as I have replaced a lot of studs over the years. I always remove the field coils completely so you can do a good cleaning of the end of coils that have to be soldered. Have to admit the first few I tried didn't go real well and no one in the territory had even tried to do it so could not give me any advice. Even the starter repair manuals never covered the procedure.

Yes. A hot heavy soldering iron can solder a connector to the lug as is, but it needs to be hot to begin with and the lug must be clean to copper, and the connector must be pre-tinned. Heat through the connector just until the joint is made. The other way is to purchase a new threaded starter lug (ebay etc.) This also requires a hot powerful soldering iron (450 watts).
Desoldering the existing lug and replacing it. Jim

Take the starter to a good repair shop and let them do the change. have them refresh the starter also. That is not a job for a novice to do.Let them wire the starter when done it takes a solenoid and push button to start or a key sw wired correct. If you still have a mag you will need two switches to start the engine.

Drill and tap a 10-32 hole on the existing copper pad to attach the cable from the solenoid.

Lest you say it won't work, Delco made MILLIONS of starters that way.

Look at "M" in the photo below.
