Good Morning all, Im new to this board.

I recently purchased a 5130 mfwd tractor. Its my first tractor, I am a beginning farmer trying to get started. Its got 9440hrs on it and is in pretty good condition. It runs great and most everything functions as far as I can tell. Ive only had it for a couple weeks. This weekend while moving some big round bales around and feeding the cows it started to sputter and then died. Was about supper time so I came back to it later. It had fuel in it about a half a tank. I did put some more fuel in it along with some diesel treatment just in case. Got in and it sputtered the first key turn and then started the next. I drove it home and the next morning I changed fuel filters.. It seemed to be running good so out I went to move more hay when it happened again... hit the key a couple times and nothing.... Now it wont even try to crank just sits and clicks. Ive heard these tractors can have some electrical issues.. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in Advance.

First off make sure the battery is fully charged. If you find that the battery is low, your alternator is not charging the battery properly.

Second off check your battery connections. Everything between the batteries, chassis ground, and the starter.

It sure sounds to me like it's one of these simple issues. The tractor has a fuel cutoff solenoid that shuts the engine off when it loses power, as in turning the key off.

Yes they can have electrical issues. But I agree with BarnyardEngineering. You are dealing with basics here, common to most machines- battery- connections- charging, and fuel flow.

My 5230 came with a screen on the pickup tube in the tank. Later serial numbers did away with the screen and put a little in line filter just before the lift pump. So, when I had the fuel tank out, I removed the screen. Then installed a filter. Another possible fuel issue- original fuel lines ran along the back side of the tank. Mine had already been replaced with standard fuel hose.

We've owned a 7210 MFWD for several years. Overall a good tractor. But it's had more than its share of electrical and fuel issues.

Grounding problems in the dash have given several "no start" along with intermittent gage outages, erroneous fault warnings, etc. The injection pump fuel shutdown solenoid has given problems too (doesn't always open when the key is turned on).

On the fuel side, the primary fuel pump (lift pump) has given loss of power or no start problems. Cause was clogging by debris in the fuel tank. Fix was to clean out the fuel tank, then install an auxiliary filter in the line to the primary pump.
