Gas tank for Diesel storage

I have a 125 gallon gas tank that I want to use for my winter blend diesel fuel. The tank hasn't had gas in it for 15-20 years. The tank looks clean on the inside except for a little rust and some varnish on the bottom from the small amount of gas that had been left in it. Do you think it would be ok to use it for the winter blend fuel storage? Thanks.

I would think it would be fine, even if it had a little gas in it would not bother, almost everyone I know with a diesel has put a little gas in by mistake at least once.

Hello WFE270NWIA,

YES you can! Besides a cleaning and a filter, I would also suggest using a dip tube and draw the fuel 3 inches higher then bottom of the tank. You could also use a drain at the bottom to remove water before it gets high enough to the draw pipe,

Guido.

Don't leave too much gas in your gas tank when you put the diesel in. In cold weather I add 1 to 2 gallons of gas in my 100 gallon tanks for my semi.
