I seen a Cockshutt 30 tractor for sale on Craigslist today. I have never heard of it. Can any of you give me a brief history.

I think they were built in canada, the same as COOP and Farmcrest. They were a 30 hp tractor. Dad has a couple. Pretty decent machines.

My Dad's 30, he bought it new and used for over 25 years on the farm. He bought a second one that we named Baker, It had an MW kit in the engine. Made lots more horsepower. Baker is the one with the greasey wheels.

I think they had a close relationship with Oliver, which also had live PTO.
A friend of mine has one with the Hi-Lo option..I clocked him at about 22 MPH one time. Just watching scared the livin' daylights outta me cause the steering was as "loose as a goose". We spent a day redoing the steering gear and that was the first time I had seen one that used studs instead of gears.
Supposed to be good tractors.

Yes, the 30 was a very popular tractor built and sold in Canada (and the U.S.) through the late 1940s to about 1957. I've got the two bigger models, the 40 and 50
50

Pretty good little tractors 4 cylinder Buda engine,Timken rear with 4 speed trans and high/low.Least collectable of all the Cockshutts as more 30 were built by far than any other model.

They were one of the better tractors of their day. Tougher'n a barrel of #20 spikes. I've already told the story on here of the thoroughly whipped 30 we bought for $125 with a hole in the block, drove a wooden plug in the hole and ran the thing for years. They were the first tractor to market a genuine live PTO.

The ones with the 6 lug rear wheels had rear end problems but the 8 lug did not. Think only the first year models had the 6 lug wheels. Same as Coop E3 Gambles And Farmcrest. Some Cockshuts were same as Blackhawk but the 30 was not made in that model.

Cockshutt 30's didn't have 8 lug wheels/hubs they first had 6 lug and then went to the 9 lug hubs. The early 9 lug hubs would leak oil pretty but the later hubs cured that problem.

Could not remember exactly, know first ones had bearing problems as neighbor had that.Friend that is a Cockshutt collector has just about all of them. Sick this morning.

A great many Cockshutt 30 and E-3 Coop tractors have survived...Theres probably 1000's still in Canada..
Pictured is a E-3 Coop I once owned which is the same thing as a Cockshutt 30....I sold it to a friend
and as you can see its now restored.

Named for James Cockshutt. There was one size smaller one known as the 20. The 30 is a 4 cylinder. The next larger one (40) has a six cylinder. They are good tractors featuring live PTO. Not much of a tractor for hilly ground though. Always wondered why a row crop tractor didn't have a rear adjustable tread width.

Gary,I posted this and didn't come back to it until today....I'd be interested in it...Whats missing? If it will roll or drag I can load it with my winch.....I have a tractor to haul home from ElDorado Springs late this week or early next week..My email is open..Thanks..
