He's staying within the tenets of their way of life! We were up in Lancaster, Pa. in September of "89 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good food, nice folks, took a tour of a working farm and the only "modern" item was a diesel powered reefer unit to keep the milk cold until pivkup.
 
Dang, hit the v instead of c in pickup!! Can't help being picky on grammar as my daughter's an English teacher!
 
I live next to them i thought they were nice people it took a while but i found out to keep them off the farm . One of the best examples is the way the dress up little kids and put them next to stands to attract people. There very lifestyle they set rules and then figure a way around them. People around here are very cautious selling them several have been burned even the banks are cracking down they love the government guarantee loans . A fatm nearby was sold that way the owner rented the extra ground back and sold it on a contract next thing hes having a tough time making and wants a break on the contract they already gutted the house and put up a new barn so he agreed after that the amish raised the rent and without permission remember contract put up a second set of buildings.
 
I live next to a Mennonite community, although it's more diluted now than it was years ago.

When I was a teenager, there was a Mennonite gal that lived nearby and hung out with us on occasion. The Mennonites are insistent that all females wear dresses or skirts. When we would pick this gal up, she'd come out of the house in a skirt. She'd have shorts on under the skirt and a mile down the road she'd pull the skirt off and run around in shorts. Then she'd put the skirt back on before we took her home.
 
Growing up we had a neighbor that did the same thing- wasn"t Amish, just some very strict, backward folks. I don"t know if the sun ever shown in their world.
