Toll Brudges Between Louisville, IN?

Planning trip to the "National Farm Machinery Show" in Louisville next month, & now have toll bridges to mess with! Is I-64 still toll free? If so I may just divert around from I-65. According to my calculations it will add about 8 +/- miles to the trip. But I cant stand paying tolls; when already paying gas tax, tax on parts, tax on tires, & every thing else You can come up with!

I know for sure both I 65 bridges and the SR265 bridge have tolls. ( Kennedy, Lincoln and Lewis and Clark bridges) The toll is $2 for a passenger vehicle. There is no booth it will send you a bill from your plate # or you can get a transponder. I know with the new bridges its smooth sailing into Louisville. Be carefull if you take the I 64 bridge and take city streets to get across to the fair grounds it turns into the hood .

The old 2nd Street bridge is toll free, you take exit off I 65 southbound to SR 31 south to get to this bridge before crossing the River. But then you are downtown L-ville and have to find your way to NFMS location. The toll bridges are $4 unless you have a transponder.

my saraand I drove the Lewis and Clark bridge the day after opening for free ,,THISBRIDGE WAS SORELY NEEDED AND WAS THE ONLY BRIDGE THAT MADE SENSE ,. but the lonnyville mukymux felt slighted and wanted one too ,...we have yet to get a transponder ,. we wonder if one transponder worx in all liscensed vehicles,... in 5 yrs they will paid for ,WE HOPE ,, this is a true usage tax ,,all our bridges I am proud to say are named for great leaders . the 2nd st bridge was built in 1928 ,,. the Sherman minton was opened in 1962, kennedy was opened in late dec 63 ,,. the powers that be were struggling with a name and the horroer in dallas gave them one unanimously

I hear you on the tolls!

I too will drive out of my way to avoid them. Here in the DFW metromess they are steady building for profit toll roads, hoping to cash in on those willing to pay to get around traffic gridlock.

My concern with using them is their aggressive approach to collecting. If something goes wrong and you don't get the bill, or they claim you didn't pay, the late charges are horrific! Plus it goes against your credit, and you can't renew your registration or drivers license.

There have been many stories on the news of this happening, many more that don't fight it and just pay. Seems they conviently made sure there is no way to fight it, or question it, just pay it!

There was one recently that the vehicle owner proved the car that was charged and the bill was bungled was 200 miles away the day it was charged with the toll! Took him months of letter writing, finally got the local news consumer action team to embarrass them into admitting their mistake! That one toll turned into thousands or dollars while they mailed late notices to the wrong address.

That's nothin'. Trip to Ok City involves a toll booth every 18', and you gotta have a bucket of quarters, they do not take anything else. As I remember total cost is about $25 one way. Seems like.

If the IRS is correct, at a 50 cents per mile deduction, driving 16 miles x .50= $8 cost
to avoid a $4 toll. plus at least 20 minutes of your time.
Hummmmm. I think I will take the bridge.

Local pols in the Cincinnati area are advocating for a toll bridge to replace the I-75 bridge.

Stay tuned.

Don't cut off your toll nose to spite your odometers face. I knew a kid who moved to New Jersey and refused to pay tolls being from California. Trouble was it took him forever to get anywhere using local roads to get around.

I believe toll is $2 if you have a transponder and $4 if you don't, no toll booths, if takes a picture of you tag and a bill is mailed to you.
I64 bridge is still toll free, cross on it and bare right onto I264 that will take you to the Fairgrounds exit by the airport.
8 extra miles for me to go that way also but I don't like the I65 exit to the Fairgrounds, it's always backed up more than I264 exit.
