Hello!
I'm new to this site but very happy to be a member!!
Just purchased a great ole gal today....1972 JD Industrial with 3160 hrs on her. She was built for the Air Force originally, went to a small municipality, then the retired JD mechanic of 35 yrs that I purchased her from today. I couldn't be more happy and excited to bring her home! She'll be very well cared for!!
No leaks, burning oil or any bad things....she starts right up, perrrs like a kitten and shifts and drives very smoothly. The fellow also just bought a $500.00 set of new chains for her. Tires are perfect shape...turf in the rear and traditional fronts.
As I live in WI..and yes it gets cold...any ideas on where I might find a used cab? If not, the snowmobile suit n other garb will be the as usual attire.
Not sure yet if I can post pics but will do my best to attach some to this thread!
PS: I did get the center link for the rear lift and the fellow had the aluminum top that went on the roll bar!
Thank You in advance for any and all replies and welcomes!
Best Wishes!
Mike

Welcome mkaa05!

That's a nice find!

Question, that clearly says "industrial", but yet it has 3 point and a PTO.

I thought that is what differentiated industrials, they didn't have those features?

I had a cab for one of those... and took it off when we mounted a backhoe to the tractor. The manufacturer was Sims. I sold it at a local consignment auction 7-8 years ago.

The downside to that cab was minimal heat, and it knocked visibility significantly. There was no seeing the front wheels! It was also very difficult to get in and out of. Getting through the cab door AND
going over the center hump was challenging if you had all your winter clothes on. And we used it to load feed, so you were on and off 30 times a day.

you could look for one of those (it was better than nothing, but not as nice as even early Waterloo cabs) or you could look for a "heat houser" ... kind of a canvas front with a plastic windshield. We had one
of those on a similar tractor as well. you would stay a little warmer with that on there. Look for one for a Dubuque ag tractor, and it will fit, but you may need to modify it a bit for the loader controls.

Everything could be added as options. like 3pt ,pto, backhoe and loader ,mid sickle mower, and I'm sure several other things I have not seen.

Two of the 3 industrials I owned had 3 point and PTO. One had an SCV, too. The only one I had with no PTO came from the factory with a backhoe. Think of it, if there is no hoe on the back, you will still want a blade or something.

You might google "vinyl tractor cabs." I bought one for my JD 4300, lots of window views, can see all wheels etc, and can be removed for summer use if you choose. It has sliding doors and the whole thing works good for me.

Nice looking machine. My 1972 300B has a cab that looks like a toll-booth. I hate it. Just gets in my way and makes it more work to get in
an out.

You will like the tractor, I have had mine for over 20 years, it has a Sims cab on it.

What you will not like is the lightness of the rear.
Pick up a round bale or a bucket of dirt and you can bounce the rear wheels off the ground.

That machine needs something on the 3PT to keep traction.

I can run mine with loaded tires, wheel weights and chains and still get stuck.
Put bale forks and a round bale on the back and it goes loaded through 2 feet of snow.
I also have a forklift mast that hooks on the 3PT that works well to balance the machine out but I rarely use it.

One winter I sat a steel drum on the drawbar and chained it tight to the back of the tractor.
Filled it with water and left it out in the cold for a few days to freeze solid. In the spring I poked a hole in the drum to drain the water.

I landscaped my yard with an 8N...definitely know what you mean about getting weight on the rear!! I figured that would be the case! Looking at a three point gizmo that has a receiver hitch and you can hang two rows of suitcase weights on it...about 1150 lbs or so. Think that should do it! Like the idea of the rear forks and a barrel of h20 but would be afraid of it coming off on a hill....that'll leave a mark on someone!!
Thanks!!
