For You Oliver Folks......

They sure had a lot more power back then when they were new than they have now used. lol

I remember sitting on my uncle's knee when they brought out an 1800 like that with a plow and demonstrated it. Even the little 500 is on there toward the end.

I shouldn't have watched that. There's an Oliver 1650 for sale nearby that's been stuck in the back of my mind and I don't know a darn thing about Oliver tractors.

Kinda' odd since I have absolutely zero interest in the other brand of green tractors.

Two things that surprised me with this video of these larger tractors was the amount of time/emphasis on a gas engine and the other was the prom ananda of a narrow front tractor. I thought both were kind of on the way out at this point in time.

Love or hate them, IMHO, AGCO was smart to consolidate on the MF brand over the past decade as they have a long, world wide brand identity vs AGCO. IMHO White screwed--up not consolidating around the Oliver name. Oliver was truely a multigenerational brand name. I liked their colors and styling much better than White.

YMMV

I had an 1800 Diesel at one time. I liked that tractor a lot. The way it looked and the features. Mine had an over under lever which was handy, I forget now Olivers name for it. The power steering was troublesome and the PTO gave me problems too, but I still liked it.

That video was shop in the fall of 1960 and was available to dealers in the winter of 1960-61 for dealer open house days for their customers. It is an early tractor as it has a white seat and the tractor does not have a hydra-power drive yet. They were promoting the gas engine because of the horse power hours it achieved on official tests. The plow is a 5540 and was also new in the fall of 1960. The first job I had for my employer was to put one of those new plows together.
