How old is this site?

How long has this site been on-line, and who has been on the longest and who has the most posts? I see that "old" has been on since 3-12-00 with 68,945 posts, anyone more than that? I joined nearly 16 years ago with just over 1,000 posts.

I cannot say for sure when Y-T got started but I know it was a couple years before I found them so I would guess around 1997 or so. Yep I post a lot because I have to take a lot of break so I do something for an hour then have to take a break for an hour or I'll end up in bed for days.

I'm pretty sure all counts were lost at least once because of hacking . When I first started posting , I was using a WEB TV terminal that you plugged into your TV !! I'm pretty sure I got that in '97....

In Modern View, if you click on Member List you can see some info. LOTS of pages!!!

1st listed user was PVCqualsrt on Jan. 8, 1974.

If the same Kim as currently owns YT, also registered in '74 (but I've no idea if the same Kim).

Most recent user: ramtop on Jan. 4, 2017

Not sure how to find out who has posted the most... when I tried to "sort" by that parameter, all were showing 0 posts. However if you look at the first list that comes up and don't sort it - then it seems to show the number of posts per user.

Going to modern view, a coupla guys are tied with over a million posts. I don't recognize either one of them. You can scroll down through some options choosing either descending or ascending orders.

It says that I joined in Feb 2007, I actually thought it was a few years before that. I know that I found the sight shortly after we got internet in 1999.

Nope - but that's what it says. Maybe it was the smoke-signal kind of web. :)

I messed up on the "Kim date" though... 1997.

(quoted from post at 04:11:51 01/05/17) Were their computers / internet or what , in 1974???

Computers, yes, but primitive by modern standards. No Internet then.

John T - You coming to the cIllinoiz Roundup next week?
They'd do it for you, and the rest!
Sure have had a good time 10+ years and look forward to seeing FLOLDFORD in February.

Good grannies, back in 1974, my '52 8N would have still been a young pup. I was 18 years old then too. Internet? No way!

well looking at the member list there are two members registered in 74 then nothing till 97 so I would say 97
looking at 97 you have kim and yt support registered on Jan 1
then no one till Dec 25 then 3 on Dec 28 then 6 on the 31
as of for most posts there are 3 with almost the same amount of posts with in 2 posts at 16,777,215 don't know the names and they have only been on since Feb 23 2012
then there is old with 68,946, souNdguy-57,685, Bob-47,236, rrlund-30,502 then buickanddeere-29,923
Then plenty of names I see posting all the time
So in answer to your questions I would say late Dec 1997
With paul or Bob M for the first members
And old is leading in the post count
I have a lot of catching up to do with only 1725 posts since Aug 2013 but I do remember my 1st ever post on here

Likewise on 'Web TV'. is when I got started also. My original ID name got lost years ago-can't remember what it was, but when you mentioned MSN web tv, I recalled using it when I found YT. that puts it somewhere '97-8

I do not know how long they have had this site. I know it was back in the 90's as I first got on about 96 or 97 and it was a few years later that they started registering names. I registered the first week you could do that. but it will say my date is a lot later than that. Thinking back it was fall of 96 as that was when we got the first computor, A windows 95.

Just checked and it says it was Jan of 98 when I came on so it was already at least 3.5 years old when I found it.

If you go to member list and click on "sort by join date" in "ascending order" you'll see Chris and Kim's join date Jan 1 1997.

Supposedly YT has been selling parts on the internet since 1995.

If you use modern view you'll see everyone's join date.

Kruser, any chance I can get an invitation to the central IL roundup?

(quoted from post at 23:11:51 01/04/17) Were their computers / internet or what , in 1974???
Yes, there were computers. I graduated in 1974 from University of Michigan with a degree in Computer Science. Mainframes were the only computers around and only big companies or schools had them. Languages were COBOL, FORTRAN, mostly. Mini-computers started to flourish then. First job out of school was programming in Assembler on a Data General mini-computer with 4k (yes, that's K) of core memory. Also worked on DEC PDP series a lot. No internet back then. (Al Gore hadn't invented it yet  )

If you wanted to multiply or divide on a computer working in Assembler, you had to write your own sub-routine to do it back then; i.e. no h/w math functions.

Then came the 8-bit micro-processors, Intel 8080, Motorola 6800, RCA 6809, etc. The math co-processors were a blessing (8087). I got my 1st home computer around 1980 or 1981. It was a Morrow Design running CP/M.

At one point in my career, I was fluent in about 25 different languages, about half of them Assembler for a particular processor. I've forgotten more about computers than a lot of these 18 yr olds touted as "experts" know.

You brought back some happy memories.
I used to be able to read machine code, but that's been year's ago.

I first came here in 97, there were very few posts on the entire site, may 40 all together. Post counts werent added until Modern View was added to the site, and theres people who have change usernames/handles over the years. Alot of info was lost as well, so post counts could be A LOT higher than whats shown. Ive chnaged my name I think 3 times, I was RED Blooded when I first came here, then changed it to John(SC) when we had to register our names. Someone else started using my name and caused some trouble. I started using my current handle to keep it simple across the boards I use to visit. If I could find all of my posts here and add them up I probably have close to 100000, but a post count isnt important to me.

Ive seen many come and go, and have lost some good friends on here over the years.

I thought I originally joined before 97, but maybe not. I don't post that much. I am on another forum with soundguy, he must be a social media master, he has a ton of posts there, also.

I used Fortran at Clemson about 1974 and I would hate to even see a punch card or card reader now. It would bring back nightmares.

I think modern view came along in 07 some folks were put in the rear and your post count started over. In 07 you had to re-register somehow I got it wrong no problem I don't get a nut from having labels beside of my name like others do  Personally I think post counts should be done away with along with labels like Guru, It proves nothing. Kim said it was part of the software package and she could not change it.

One day I was a newbie and the next day a Guru ain't that amazing and I did not have to earn it. I could be wrong 60K times but still get a trophies...

Sorry I wont be making that Illinois show but will be an Exhibitor at both the Jan and Feb Florida Flywheelers in Row 74 site 18 in the far Northwest corner of exhibit field, stop n say howdy. Often Tim has a YT gathering at the IHC replica building in the village one morning.

I got my first computer used, a Mac 512, in 1989 or 90. I got Quicken and did my taxes with MacInTax for 1989. There was not much internet then. Early on I found ATIS, the Antique Tractor email list and joined. Chris and Kim were on there then. I think Chris was starting to sell tractor parts then. He had bought a lot of old Cat manuals, he picked through them and I bought the rest from him. When they started YT they disappeared from ATIS. I don't remember when I joined YT.

We got a computer in 1998 and I found this place around 2000 and
started posting...It had been here for 2-3 years..I had to reregister in 2007....

George, it looks like you are trying to catch up with Old, and doing a good job of it.
Not trying to ruffle your feathers but when you comment about others you open yourself up too. Maybe remember the old saying about people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Jim,

Are you coming to Flywheelers in Feb? Would love to meet you - What day (or days) are you going to be there? My schedule is flexible.

Stan

You bring back a lot of memories. Worked for Control Data in the 60's designing computer memory test systems when 8K memories were big. Been fun to watch the changes over the years. Was glad to see punch cards go. Our first calculator was I believe a Cannon that was punch card driven

I guess I'm lucky, never had to reregister. And I've had some long breaks.

Back when I was in the navy I had to work on the CNC computer the Mag tape unit and the A to D convertors and those where old when I started repairing them. Paper tape readers and a number of other opsilite stuff

Hi All, I've been on YT since the very beginning, even before they registered names. At that time I even posted to Kim to add a few more topics, IE Dozers, backhoes etc.I think it was around 97 or so. When I got on this site I was using a key board and my TV was the monitor. It was called "Web TV". You couldn't do anything but look up stuff period. Jim in N.M.
