I see they make dimmers for 3 way switches, but do you just need 1 or does it require 2? Is it critical as to which of the 2 locations it is mounted at?

ow is that going to work out during summer A/C season?

Every light in my darn house has two switches. As long as you make sure you get a 3 way switch with dimmer you only need 1 dimmer switch. I have used the ones from Lowe's always and have installed them both as the last switch on the run or in the middle without any issue. Make sure if you plan on using LED bulbs or lights you get a dimmer that will work with LED's. I think the same goes for CFL bulbs as well still.

They make both styles. It is more common to
find them that just take 1 dimmer per light.
The ones that take 2 have a dimmer and a
slave switch, these are typically more
expensive. I upset a homeowner once
explaining this, it seems it was an argument
about who was right and I got drug into the
middle :(

am confused, what does fooling the thermostat and wife have to do with dimmer switches?
immers make heat. Need more?

The dimmer gets a little warm and the wife thinks the heat is higher than it really is . The dimmer under the stat warms it up.

That would only affect thermostat if dimmer was mounted just under it, plus the newer electronic ones do not create near the heat the old rheostat types did.
