Equipment sales commission

I'm selling a piece of equipment for a friend, sales price is $2000. What is fair commission for something? I didn't do any repairs but if the buyer brings a cylinder for it I've offered to make new hoses for them, I have tons of new hoses that were leftovers or scrapped during prototype builds, just need to crimp new ends on.

I had to pull it out of shed and take pictures. Posted pics online and have been responding to questions so not a huge time commitment but I have maybe 3 hours in it.

I should add that the standing offer I have was twice what she originally told me she thought it was worth.

I sold an 8N ford for a friend once. The tractor brought 2750. My friend gave me a hundred dollars. I would have done it for
free. Charge for the parts.I guess 10% would be fair since you have 'time'/labor in it.

A friend, a woman, you're doing her a favor?? I'd say do it out of the goodness of your heart. Not only no charge, I wouldn't let her force any money on me.

What would an auctioneer take if they had consigned it to an auction? I think $300 (15%) is fair especially since you got them a higher price than they were even looking for to begin with.

Told me up front to take a commission off the sale. Her dad bought it several years ago and passed away since. She's never used it and want's some shed space back.

Im with FBH44 , If is a friend i wouldn't charge anything. Maybe you will need a helping hand one
day and the friend help you out.

If I sell something for another person, other than family or friends, I take 5%, but they usually give me more.
It seems the ones with the fatter wallet don't tip as good.

If it was really a friend I would not even think of taking commission even if they said too. Now it would be different if I had to do a bunch of work to it first to make saleable.

At least 10% especially if your making up hoses... And you got her more to boot.

only free if your dating her.

I have taken in many tractors for friends and sold them. I clean them up, fix any minor problems, paint them, and then sell them at at least double what they would have got for a ""set up,, not running" tractor". Yes it takes a battery, cleaning the carb and tank, filing the points clean, and power washing... Usually get an oil change, some electrical and mechanic work. A tire or two. and now we have a really nice reliable tractor that someone would be proud to own. Before, they would have been lucky to get $500... And after, they get most of at least $2700 to $15,000 pending on the tractor. Am I worth the fee?? I dont force people to come to me. And they are welcome to sell it themselves, but most people are too lazy to do so. So far, everyone has been happy, including me.

If money is not the issue (and I gather it is not). Let her/him set the price you might come out a head. I did some stuff for a woman and told her to give me what its worth to her. Usually I figured like $100 (even 50 would been ok) she gave me $250 In her case she was far from poor!!

Probably how they got the fat wallet

I would have never thought to charge anyone for that.I've sold several pieces of equipment for people who don't have the internet.I don't feel the need to get paid for helping someone out.

I list and sell things for friends and even people I hardly know. If it is their money, no risk, and I don't have to do anything, I do it for free. If I have to haul it or fix it, they have to cover those costs. If they don't want to be involved, I buy it for a fair price that allows me a profit. I have to make money if I invest money and take the risk of something being wrong with it. That being said, it would be nice if they gave me $50 or $100 but I don't remember any doing that. I certainly don't think it is unreasonable to charge 10%.
