Hi i'm looking at a case 1070 to buy. the 3pt will only move up and down about 3 inches with weight on it. the guy says he fills the hyd fluid every few weeks and it just leaks out somewhere but doesn't leave a puddle wondering if this is common and if anyone knows about it? thanks Colin.

A little common sense needs to be used here. If he keeps filling it and then it is low, it has to go somewhere. If it isn't leaking on the ground, it has to be going somewhere. The tranny/hyd system holds about 15gal of fluid. Did you check the dipstick on the rear of the tranny housing to see if it was full. I think the seller is trying to hood wink you.

Sorry, I stated dipstick at rear, with 1030 stuck in my mind. A 1070 has sight glasses on the LH side of tranny under the battery box that can become dirty on inside and hard to determine oil level.
Did you look at them???

there is no where for oil to go on the inside of a case since the trany, rear end, and hyd are all a common reservoir. I think it the rear engine seal went bad you could get some transfer there, but you would likely have dark trany fluid or the engine would overfill. So if he's loosing oil it's on the ground somewhere. I have seen some of those leak up front on the steering, so if the puddle is up there that could be it. The 3pt issue is likely just a linkage or cable issue or maybe in the valve. Unless he also has a powershift problem, sometimes a leak in the powershift will take all the oil so there is nothing left for hyd. This is almost always acompanied by loss of steering at the same time tho. So, if all he has is the loosing oil issue and the 3pt issue it's not likely serious.
