Thieves Struck the Trucks

Ten trucks at our Local Chevy dealer here in Highland IL, had the wheels and tires stolen off them on Thursday night. I heard they were targeting the 20" wheels.

Wish they'd come and steel my whole truck...never been so disappointed in a chevy as I've been in this 2015 Silverado.

Six or eight years ago at the dealer I worked for they stole about 9 air bags one night. One out of a used car and the rest out of new Cadillacs parked out front next to the highway. They were like surgeons, never left a mark on the cars, just missing air bags. I always wondered if they were in cahoots with somebody from OnStar that unlocked them. Years ago they'd steel 4 speed trannys out of them, fancy wheels and tires and spares off new trucks.

Try my 2010 dodge, gotta get permission for everything, including an unwanted delay, about a few seconds, including beeping the horn.

I know a used car dealer here who says he doesn't even lock the cars on the lot. They've had issues with people stealing stereos and said there's no sense having to replace windows too.

Well heck the great big brother system "OnStar" did not stop the theft????? It should have been able to track the wheels/tires and let the air out of them/ LOL

I do not care what system or locks some one comes up with there will be some else that figures out how to go around it and steal things. It has been happening since the beginning of time.

I gotta give GM credit. I'm really surprised that the bodies would take all that weight that well. They must have known exactly what they were after. They got all the special nuts off.

Probably a herd of ill eagles came and swiped them for there pimped out low riders.think they call them dubs.

Have driven Chevrolet all my life (55 years old) this is the first one that I don't like. Cab has lots of rattles, as in everywhere. Transmission shifts like a tank, clunks when downshifting, slips when cold in first three gears. Engine has some kind of whine to it, sounds kind of like a power steering pump going bad, Vibration felt in steering wheel at hi-way speeds, worse when pulling a trailer. Engine ticks at idle, was told that was the valve train and was "normal". Matter of fact, two dealers have told me all this stuff is normal with this year truck. Bought this truck with 2880 miles on it...wish I hadn't.

No thanks on the Dodge....Think I'll go to the dark side and get a Ford, at least they'll match my tractors now.

takes a lot of cahones to swipe that many wheels off a lot knowing somebody could drive up any second, only thing they stole off a lot around here was the full size spare tires, that was a decade ago, back in the 70's i heard of some that would hop aboard the rail cars, take the tires off new trucks while the train was underway and throw them off near the rail maintenance road, then go back and get all them , one of the reasons they went to fully enclosed and locked auto transport cars on the railroads

Our local Chev dealer had all the wheels stolen off of 14 trucks one night. Right along a major highway, very well lit. Takes a lot of guts. Probably the same group. Probably a very well trained team.

I have a new 2016 Chev 1500 and I absolutely love it. No vibration, great ride. I am very happy I bought it. I didn't look at Fords because the price was so much higher and I can't stand the way they look. I also have 3 Ford Super Duties so I am not exactly a Chev man.

Years ago, the ford dealer in our small town went to move a pickup from the lot into the show room and it would not move. They checked it over and the tranny was gone. Never knew when it happened.

JD I see your reply is a bit of a "spoof" but I suspect the Onstar system alerts are only activated after the new owner has registered the vehicle. It would be interesting if there was some sort of traceable signal from major components. However, that would probably be quickly figured out by thieves. Then there is always the justification of the extra cost per unit.

My son works at a Chrysler dealership and a few weeks ago he reported that somebody stole a bunch of taigates...and the engine controller(from a diesel)...thieves are everywhere!

Then there is always the justification of the extra cost per unit.

That hasn't stopped them from making emissions equipment, seatbelts, airbags, tire pressure sensors, and backup cameras FEDERALLY MANDATED standard equipment on all new vehicles. Even the cheap basic cars have to have all of it. Cost has nothing to do with it.
