540 Hydraulic pto question

I have an 800 versatile I would like to try one of these hydraulic driven pto units on to run a feed wagon for a few weeks in the spring when the frost comes out. It is calling for 20gpm to run 540 rpm, I only need to run around 200 rpm, and I think the 800 has around a 15 gpm pump. I would think this should work. Any ideas on why it won't or shouldn't be done?

Should work. You would need to plumb a flow control valve with a return circuit for the bypassed hydraulic flow/oil. This way the PTO out put speed would stay the same over a wider throttle range.

It should work provided it delivers enough power to run the wagon. At an operating pressure of 2000 psi you can deliver about one hp per gpm of flow. If the motor requires 20 gpm to run at 540 rpm than it would be taking 7.4 gpm at 200 rpm which would give you only about 7 hp at the shaft to work with. Is this motor available in a larger displacement size? This would allow you to make better usage of the 15 gpm pump in your tractor while running at the slower shaft speeds you are wanting.

I looked at the tractor data site, and they have the 800 listed with a 20 gpm pump, so we should be good to go. Thanks for all the information.

This is not a mixer wagon, just a simple barge wagon with a floor chain and conveyor chain, I might be wrong, but I just don't think it takes much power to run it even with a load.

I have a flow control that i use with my sprayer, I can just plug that in to adjust the speed if need be.
