Cultivator or Disk?

I have one set up with more tines. It's hard to pull through sod. It's more for cultivating.

If you're plowing sod, you'll want to follow a plow
with a disk, not a cultivator. Bean or corn stubble, a
cultivator will work ok.

Cultivator for me is for weed regrowth, or planting prep well after the subsoiler and disc. I have spring fingers on the tail end of the cultivator
for final leveling. I'm in heavy clay which has to be managed at "ITs" option, not mine. Moldboard not an option due to gumming up. The
weather plays a very big part in soil prep, especially the winter when the clay gets water logged and freezes. Stuff turns to powder when it
dries out.

That is ONLY FOR USE in cultivating the crop after it is up and growing. By adding extra shanks (that you could not find) it could be set to do a FINAL tillage operation before planting in already loosened soil that has layed long enough for the weeds to start to sprout to kill those weeds just comming thru the ground. I have that unit and know what it will and what it will NOT do.

I would follow the plowing with a Drag, ( I use a Soil Surgeon), maybe add a Cultipacker, to settle the soil and improve traction.

This will let you Disc and not bring up near as much Sod/Grass..

A cultivator will not do what you want to do after plowing. Go with a disk. Also, that cultivator would bring maybe $125 - $150 in my area.

You'll probably be happier with a disk.

In clay soils we got rid of our disks, and use field cultivators. Disks pack clay too much. But we do heavy tillage in fall, and thrn field cultivate in
spring after winter mellows the limps.

if you are plowing and then following with something, a disk will work out better.

Thanks everyone for the replies and info. Again you are all a good wealth of information.

Think I will keep looking for a disk. The soil is more loam type than clay.
