Gradually learning to work a new camera and its quite a learning process. Got this shot of the yard about 10:30 this morning. That is the 15-30 McCormick Deering at the bottom of the photo.

(quoted from post at 18:37:24 12/20/16) Looks like your a quick learner.
Its been a steep learning curve and I've still got lots to learn about it. But I do have the basic skills now needed to fly , and most importantly, land. I had to call in some help (my nephew) to get the compass calibration done before the first flight yesterday.

(quoted from post at 18:57:44 12/20/16) that is fantastic!!! My wife really liked your video,,when you fed your cats she watched it and told me to tell you she liked it.
Thanks Larry. I never did post the "real cat video" that I shot one winter a few years ago showing about 8 cats coming to meet me through the snow at feeding time.

When our neighbor bought a drone he practiced flying it WITHOUT the camera. No doubt you did too. It was funny watching him fly it when he was beginning, he flew it low and his dog chased it as hard as it could go. Looks like fun!

I was just talking to an old friend about today's cameras. I've been converting some old VHS tapes to DVD before the tapes rot. I even have a few tapes of 8 mm movies that were converted 35 years ago. The VHS movies were shot over 33 years ago with one of the early consumer (read killer expensive at the time) cameras that had a separate recorder in a carry sack. Being so used to these tiny action cams now that shoot in High Definition, those old video tapes look like absolute trash.

I had a drone for about 30 mins 3 months ago. It took off and went to the other side of the house . Was way up there i tried to get it to come back .So i ran around the house with the controller in my hand and never saw it again . Ive looked in trees fields everywhere that dam thing just took off and left.

Too bad. Was just talking to more experienced drone owner this morning and he recommended getting a GPS tracker attachment that would allow me to locate a drone that had crashed in some hard to explore place. So far I'm just being careful. Not going very fast or very far.

There are several computer programs just for what you are doing. They can "massage " the sound and video quite a bit! I saw the results like two years ago so I am sorry that I can't tell you the brand. Google a couple of "professional video maker" web sites. The results were very impressive.

Does your drone have that Auto pilot function? Helps you out so you don't look like a total klutz. Some drones have an automatic fly home function. If your's has it turn it on. Still will say, please give your kittys some of that Alpo lamb and rice. It is not that expensive. They will love you. I would even send you a couple of cans.

Yes, the "return to home" feature gives a better landing than I have been able to do manually.
Sound is not an option in the drone video as all you would hear is the sound of the props, like a swarm of bees.
I need to experiment with various video formats available as shooting options.

Try again some sunny morning and try for a shot where the barn and old tractor fill the frame more and you've got yourself a calendar shot.

That one I posted was a cropped image as the full size was huge. I'd like to get an early morning sunrise shot but its the coldest time of the day and I'm not a morning person anyway. About +8F here at sunrise.
Another view of the yard looking south.

rusty6,

These are really cool photos!

You're making me want to buy a drone. Probably won't... but you're making me want to. :)

Rusty6, I got a drone last year for christmas they are a lot of fun. The first thing you will want to do is buy a extra battery. My will last about 23 min. I'm hoping to get extra one this year for Christmas. Nice looking pictures.

Thanks, I am hoping to do better as I get more familiar with operating the controls. Warmer weather would help too.

This one is supposed to be good for 25 minutes but I doubt I'd get that long in below freezing temps like I've been running this one. For now I'll get by with one. Its a one hour recharge. If I get into extended flights I might find the need for an extra battery.
