they just announced on news that all 7 are safe,. not sure if they are out yet,.. no other detils

great! I spent a lot of time spelunking in my younger days & know getting out can be a very close thing sometimes. This was in W. Va. in the early '60s & several caves still had tools & troughs in them from when they made gunpowder during the Civil War. I'm sure there is nothing left of that stuff now but I'm sure not going back down to check!

I've done some spelunking and hiked slot canyons in Utah, watching the weather is a must and rain can be bad.

Glad they're ok.

My brother got in a mess when he was a teenager. Water came up in a cave they were exploring, and it got deep enough that they had to tip the kerosene lantern between the water and the ceiling. They got out ok, but he preached often about spelunking only on bright sunshiney days, ha.

Our local cave has a couple of sinkhole type entrances that wouldn't collect a lot of water, but it also has an opening that's downstream in a big hollow. It's not the place to be with rain in the forecast.

Glad those folks are OK.

A friend of mine introduced me to caving maybe 25 years ago. He was into going to "Old Timers" a caving festival in WV. We did that for a few years and I did some with my wife and other friends in the WV area over the years. Haven't done any for a while now. I suspect with the lawyers and the way people have become, a lot of the cave entrances have been locked out. I love the WV area and have mountain biked there some too. I live in R.I. so it is a bit of trip, usually a "vacation" to go there. A couple of the caves I remember are Sharps, and My Cave, although I remember going in half a dozen others I don't remember the names. Also the Cass Railraod is a fun day and really neat for us mechanical types to look at. Worth checking out if only on line.

Glad to hear they are safe.

One of the few things that I'm really weary about is going into caves where there's barely enough room to get through. I'm not claustrophobic, but rather very aware of how many things can go wrong that would result in being trapped or worse.
