Neat trick for banged up finger

I squeezed a finger pretty good today and it started turning purple under the nail. After awhile it started throbbing so I looked up ways to drain off the pressure. Saw one idea a guy disenfected a small drill bit than spun in in his fingers to make a hole and drain off the pressure. It looked like a pretty good alternative to pushing a needle through it then it sticking into the finger once it broke through. The bit worked perfect with no pain soaked it in peroxide now it's good as new lol

Even better,,,,I have that box set of 50 diamond drills from harbor freight. They have a couple of very tiny ones in there. Use your handy dandy Dremel tool. Very good control and they will cut through your nail like butter. Only problem is most people wait toooo long. Gotta do it quickly!

I've done that several times with a Dremel; and after soaking in Peroxide, I thoroughly dry the finger and put a drop of Crazy Glue on the hole to seal it. Keeps out dirt and prevents infection.

Have used cutting torch drills for this for years. Also use them for other things too besides torch tips. Comes with 10 bits that store in the end under screw on cap, collet on other end. Very sharp and from not much bigger than a needle up to pencil lead size.

Heck, I just chuck up the drill, turn up the RPMs and with a light touch, drill thru the fingernail, wrap it up and get back to work.

I have used a new screw a couple times, worked good. Once I got a paper clip red hot with a torch, just touch the nail and it melted a hole right through. The blood shot 3 ft out of it!

Dr. in the hospital just took a metal paper clip and unfolded it and heated it with a cigarette lighter and jabbed it into the patience's finger nail. Just relating something I saw. JD

I tried the red hot paper clip or sewing needle and chickened out. Ended up using a small drill bit.

I've done that before. The smallest drill bit that I have, over the top of the purple spot, spin back and forth applying a little pressure until I made it through. Then soak it a little. In time, the nail will grow out. Works well and feels a ton better after the pressure is relieved.

Last Sunday I caught my fingers in the auger of my sister's small snow blower. Scared me to death, thought I messed up bad. Was afraid to pull my glove off and look. YOUCH!!! I was doing her a quick favor, race the blower through for her before I left, but the snow was wet and heavy and kept clogging. I kept letting off of the auger and reaching into the chute to clear it, but one time I have no idea what I was thinking and didn't let off the auger, poked my hand into it and...YOUCH!!! All four fingers got caught, but didn't even break the skin. All swelled up and turned purple though. Swelling has mostly gone down and most of the purple is gone, but still smart a bit. I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. From no on, let off the auger, walk around to the front, and use a stick just to be safe. God gave me a break on that one. That really hurt and I thought the worst. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. I got a break that I really didn't deserve.

Reminded me of the time we were loading BIG rocks onto a platform on the back of a JD "M" for weight traction to push snow. Setting the rocks on with a backhoe. The rock rolled and like a fool I stuck my hand out to catch it ...So it didn't hurt the rock when it hit the framework I guess...Dumb move... anyway I jerked my hand out from where it was caught. Leather chopper mitt stayed behind pinched in place. Wool liner was SOAKED in blood. Went in the house and sat down BEFORE I pulled that liner off! Scared what I would find. Just squished the tips of two fingers enough they broke the skin. Didn't even lose a nail. Just lucky I guess.... Sure was scared though. The things kids (even me) did and do...

I had to have that done to my big toe one time. I was helping another milk hauler unload at the milk plant one morning when I kind of lost my grip and dropped a full can of milk on my toe.

By the time I got unloaded and loaded my empties,I was about to go nuts with pain. I went right to the emergency room. They used a drill bit on me,but the darned thing kept catching and twisting the nail around making it even worse,if that was possible. I think I'd rather take my chances with a red hot needle. That's how I used to do it to the kids when they were little and would bang themselves up. Just hold a needle with a pair of pliers, get it red hot and I didn't have to do much more than touch it to the nail.

Dad worked at the ice plant just after the war. One of the other guys got his fingers crushed somehow with his gloves on. Dad said one of the gloves was still laying there a few days later. He picked it up and put it on and the end of the guys finger was still in it.

Oh yeah, the only way to do it. Had a thumb smashed with a hammer, that dude throbbed. The millisecond the red-hot needle got through my nail.....instant relief. Wife's big toe got same kind of injury from running. She's a NP, and had me drill it with a hypo needle. Had to do it by hand, she wouldn't let me chuck it up in the cordless DeWalt.

Crazy glue is a wonderful thing. I put a drop of tamed iodine on things like that or neosporen. You can also close up and then put a dab of crazy glue on the pinched together cut. Better than a band-aid or stitches. Fixes you right up!
