Got my hearing aids yesterday

Picked up my hearing aids from VA yesterday. I never realized my hearing was so bad. Grand kids were yelling at me when they got in from school, I guess it's gonna be a little learning curve for them too LOL. These things are supposed to be state of the art digital ones. I can talk on my IPhone from my aids and it will ring into them too. I can set the volume from the cell phone too. I really don't have any problems wearing them except everything is louder now & I'll get used to that. Now, all I have to do is find another way for selective hearing from the boss LOL. Keith

I got new updated ones this past June, my originals were 5 yrs old. What amazed me with the first ones was how much noise the newspaper makes while you are trying to read it. LOL

I really hope that they work for you. I had dismal luck with mine and spend lotta bucks and tried lotta designs. Course my hearing test for the last "fancy" pair I bought was -90dBc in the worst region......for reference -3 db = half, -10 = 1/10,, -20 is 1/10 of 1/10 and so on. The Dr. said that the best she could do was +30 db. Well that still left me at -60 dBc

The technology keeps improving which is great. Problem has to improve with attention being paid to it. My main problems were wind, background, and loud noises vs conversation levels, especially the female voice (2000-4000 Hz) which I attest to my occupation.....but for what I got out of 45 years of the occupation I had, I am doing just fine with bad hearing.....nooooo gripes.

Got mine a couple months back. I have had them adjusted for sound a couple times and will do it at least once more. I also have to tell my wife not to tell at me. The best thing they have done was give me control of the volume. Once I got that I love them. I haven't had them hooked to my phone yet which I will do too.

My wife has had hearing aids for about years. She's on her second pair.

The only problem is, the feedback she gets through them causes her to speak more softly than normal. Then she yells at me and says I have a problem if I ask her to repeat herself. For the record, at her insistence, I had my hearing tested and found out it's still basically normal, no change in nine years since the last time I had it tested. She refuses to believe the results of the test.

Have had and used my aids for more than a decade. My hearing is such that much of the time they are turned off since there is a lot that I do not want or need to hear. I like having that control. Communication is difficult enough at best and it is very irritating when we have to repeat what we've said because of others' hearing impairment. Consciously and unconsciously this tries one's patience, and they may then lose the benefit of our sage counsel. Most of us only use about five senses, and when we do not hear that puts us down by twenty percent. For you and especially for those around us, things may get a lot better with improved hearing.

Just be sure you turn them off or do not put them in if your going to be on a tractor or around other such loud noises.

I got hearing aids from the V.A. a few years ago but do not wear them much due to the fact I am around a lot of noises so I would be turning them on and off a whole lot if I wore them much. Had I known about that when I got them I probably would have held off till my hearing got worse

If it is windy out, I must wear a sock hat to cover my hearing aids.
Mine are 5 years old now, about time for upgrade.
I would like to have the volume control in the phone.

Big problem with mine that did not half worked was the piece that fits inside of your ear would make the ear fill up with sweat till it would run out when taking the aids out. And nothing would stop the wistleing.

The first set I got through VA were terrible for wind noise. The updated set I got last June are 100% better on wind noise. Don't notice it hardly at all anymore.

SUNDAY--These have a volume control on them as well as being able to control it from the phone. It was pretty windy yesterday and I had some but not much wind noise. I was operating the old backhoe and just turned them off while I was on it. They really surprised me how comfortable they were to wear. As far as the background noise, they automatically cancel it out to the point of directing the pickup directly in front of you, so the guy told me that in noisy places, have my wife sit directly across from me and I would be able to hear her more clearly. The only thing that worries me is I'm supposed to cover them (western hat, hoodie or something) or take them out when in rain. From what some of you guys and a lot of others have told me, if I would have gotten them a few years ago, I would not have worn them. He said they were renewable every 4 years and even if I'm not having trouble with them come in & get a new set because of the new technology so you vets that have had them for a long time or have gotten them & wouldn't wear them might want to give them a try, they have a 90 day warranty. If I don't like them I can take them back and he will try something else for me. VA will repair them of course after that 90 days. Keith

Sounds encouraging Keith. I finally gave up and went to the VA last week. I am supposed to go back January 18 to pick up my new hearing aids.

I have tried some others from private sources and have experienced the same problems others here have complained about, so I quit using them. Maybe these new ones from the VA will do the trick. Can't beat the price. I should have gone to the VA long ago, but I was always too busy and the nearest one is a 2 1/2 hour drive away.

I know what you mean, I have to drive 85 miles to get to mine, but it sure is worth it. They treat you like you're a person instead of just a number at Chillicothe VA Medical Center here in Ohio.

Old farmer goes back for 2 month check up and audiologist asks how his family likes the hearing aids. Farmer replies "I haven't told them yet, but I have changed my will twice."

One of the problems I have encountered with my aids is forgetting to remove them before I step in the shower. I've ruined one already but it was still under warranty.
