buying steel busings?

is there a source of miscellaneous bushing so I don't need a machine shop custom make them? These are 1" x 1.25" X 4.5" long steel bushings.

I did a quick search and found a bronze bushing at asbbearingsonline. # cb 1620-32

Without knowing your application it's difficult to say exactly what you want or need, but in general it shouldn't be hard to find off-the-shelf bushing stock if you don't need something exotic or tight-tolerance. I've had good luck using Online Metals ( onlinemetals.com ) for small-quantity orders, and they stock a variety of sizes of steel tubing and other things that might well work for you. McMaster-Carr also has a good selection of bushing materials.

Without knowing the application the best thing I can tell you is to check out McMaster Carr, and MSC. Both carry a wide variety of standard sized bushings.

Another place to try is Connex. Places like McMaster carry split, spring steel bushings from them or someone else, in common sizes. Usually coming direct from Connex you need to custom order, but I have gotten lucky on occasion and they were running, or had something in stock, in the size I needed.

I needed steel split bushing for my backhoe. MikeM works at a place that sells them. I had to use two bushings. I think they were only 3 inches long. I pushed in the bushings form each side and left a crack between them where the grease zerk is.

You should be able to get the ones you want on ebay. Search for split bushings. Again you will have to use two of them to get the length you need. I have an adjustable ream to true up the place I installed mine.

Here at work we use 1.25 od x 1 id x 1 lg and the 1.25 od x 1 id x 2.5 lg these are the hardened steel split bushings.

What I sure don't understand is why our purchasing dept. is paying 4 times as much for only 2 times the length for the longer ones ? maybe it is some weird special order size ?

Short ones retail for $ 4.20 and the long ones for $ 16.32 each.

email is open if any of these will work ?
