How many cross chains?

Except that there's some extra chain at the end for joining the chains together when you install them.

I've got 14 cross chains installed now, and I *think* they had 15 or 16 cross chains originally, but I don't want to install too many and then have to pry them back off with the worn out chain tool.
 
An extra will not make much difference, look where the hook wear is on the extra chain to determine the need for a "last" cross link. If you drive it at 20 mph it will be a bit
out of ballance if there is a whole space missing, or two cross links within 2 links of touching. Jim

What's really grating on me right now is that I looked all this information up on my phone at the auction where I bought these replacement cross chains. Now I can't seem to find the information anywhere.
 
Well, I figured out how I was able to look it up so easily at the auction...

Note to self: Look on the other side of the bag of cross chains you dummy!!!

THE PART NUMBER WAS RIGHT ON THE BAG!!!

Laclede's website has all the specs. For a set of 15.5x38 Roadmaster chains, there are 18 cross chains. Since my side chains are worn I put on 17 cross chains.

In my defense the bag started out weighing 110lbs so I didn't flip it over until I'd used up most of the chains...
