Portable air compressor pull rope to start engine

My pull rope broke and I didn't have any rope. But I did have some electric wire pretty good size gauge about the same size as the rope. It is copper and it's coated. Put it in there and it works good. Will it outlast the rope ?

Good for you for getting it fixed instead of just driving to Wal-Mart to buy a new one! My money is on the rope, though. The wire won't take the flexing.

That's a great temporary fix to get you going again. Long term I would still install a rope because rope will be easier to pull and the rope will be more durable than the insulation cover on an electrical wire. Any small engine shop and most hardware stores will carry starter rope, or you can order it online and have it delivered to your mailbox.

Take the starter assemble with you and a piece of the old rope. There are like six sizes just for small engines and some of them are metric. . Good temporary but go for the rope. REALLY OLD chainsaws had fine brade metal cable for the pull "rope" back in the late 40s. These were the really big 6 and 8hp two man Disston machines.

Been there, done that. The metal will cut the eyelet that the rope is supposed to go through on the plastic spool if you or anyone else ever pulls it to the end. If you pull it close to the end (like within a couple of wraps) it will still do it. Buy some rope.

HA HA, that's a weak stepsister to what John Deere provided as an auxiliary "rope" pull start system for the pony on a John Deere "R"!
